This week’s meeting on Thursday, August 27th at 6:30 to 8:00 pm we will be having a guest. It is Jessica from Dr. Snyder’s office and she is a Nutritionist. I have asked her to come in and talk to us about Supplements and our food intake.
I hope that all of you are able to attend! We are located at Faith Community Church on the SW side of Wadsworth – caddy corner from Starbucks where we used to meet.
Please RSVP as I would like to have a rough estimate on how many I can expect.

Hi Kevin! Thanks for your reply. We actually just got back! We ended up staying at the Spring Hill Suites. We had a nice, clean room. We weren't too impressed with the continental breakfast, but otherwise had a wonderful stay there. We booked for the weekend getaway, whi*****luded a free in room movie and two medium pizzas. We ended up having to ask how we were supposed to get those two things, so we wondered about their organization there. We loved the zoo and the butterfly pavillion, but were not impressed, at all, with Elitches. We rented a VIP cabanna, but were definately not treated as VIP. Overall, though, our kiddos loved their little weekend trip, so that's all that really matters!

Not sure if you've left yet. But there are a couple of places to stay within a very short distance to the Butterfly Pavilion which also puts you within a 30 min drive to all the other mentioned locations you'd like to see. On the upper end of the scale is the Westminster Weston which is right across the street from the BPav. Across the highway (US 36/Boulder Turnpike) is a Spring Hills Suites. These are part of the Marriot system of hotels but the rates are reasonable. We've had a couple of birthday party/sleep overs at the Spring Hills.
I would agree with the other poster about not staying downtown. Too much money for not enough kid value. There at the BPav is a local outdoor mall called the Promenade which has an Ice Arena, Movie Theaters, Splits Bowling, Even an indoor glow-in-dark putt-putt course. There are also several nice restaurants at the Promenade as well as within a 5 or 10 minute drive from either of those hotels.
Good luck and have fun!

Topic: RE: Considering lap-band
Thanks for all the info. I guess I was worried that I would have to go through months of being on diet drugs first to see if that worked before going for WLS. Yes, the drugs all seem to have lots of side effects. I have tred Alli for a couple of weeks, but it did nothing for me as I aleady was eating a low fat diet (my issue comes from carbs). I am considering the lap-band just mainly due to the fact that my bmi is not over 40 and it seems less invasive. Plus I don't want my organs surgically altered! ha ha. I am still researching the different surgeries though and will make an appt with a doctor soon. The joint pain and just the whole inability to function on a daily basis is getting worse and I know it has to do with the excess weight. I just want to feel normal!!
I do have insurance with UnitedHealth and am wondering how hard it is to get it approved by them?

In Episode 42 we have a bandster as our new Freak of the Week. We take a look at post surgery guilt. Find out if there really is such a thing as food porn. And share a recipe for a chocolaty version of the Muffin in a Minute, but this time its only 35 seconds!
HIGHLIGHTS
- This weeks “Freak of the Week" is Cindy40
- Cindy is a new kind of freak who loves, exercise, eating right, and loves her band.
- Do you find yourself constantly feeling guilty by not being perfect?
- Feeling guilty only makes it harder. Don’t expect perfection. Expect to make mistakes.
- Getting rid of guilty feelings makes it easier to stay on track.
- Lets talk about food porn. Foods that get stuck in your head.
- Certain foods can cause a form of “arousal".
- The “amygdala" can effect overeating. In over eaters, it can remain active even after getting what it desires.
- Studies also show in obese and over eaters, in the primal part of the brain, the object of their desire can be increased.
- We share another great recipe for a chocolate dessert that you can cook in 35 seconds.

Topic: Approved for surgery
I will be going in for my Lap Band on Aug 27th and I am ready to start a new chapter in my life. I was just wondering if there was anyone in the Loveland area who was going in for surgey or just had their surgery. I would love to hear about others experiences with Dr. Johnell

Gennie, I'll try to help as much as I can, I'm not a physician. I think regulations have changed so dramatically since the big fiasco with Phen-fen. I just don't think you will find a good doc that will go out on a limb like that anymore. I have found that prescription drugs have been a temporary fix for me, with weight loss and then gain again, plus more sometimes, when I'd get back to eating naturally.
As far as WLS, and the type that you have, that is actually up to you and your physician. So, please do your homework on the different types before seeing any other surgeon. And, no, I don't think any of these docs will prescribe you medications for weight loss first.
As we get older our metabolisms slow down.
Maybe if you would try attending some of the more informative support groups around and ask questions of the members there, you might get some additional information. Also, join a gym or walk, swim or anything to get moving. Get in lots of protein and water to help get you thru the times of hunger or "head hunger".
I chose a lap RNY because it was the right decision for me. I've tried almost every diet and diet pill out there. I had developed type II diabetes, breathing problems and more. I had to do something.
So, good luck on your journey whichever you decide to do.

Welcome! I have no help as far as the drugs for weight loss other than to say, I would never want to try them instead of surgery. Remember phen/fen? Seems something always comes out later about some horrible side effect the drugs have after the fact. There is that OTC orlistat called Alli have you tried it? Maybe instead of drugs a bariatric dr would help you with a medically supervised diet something like Optifast or something like that as an option to surgery? Good luck to you in your quest. If you do opt for surgery, I absolutely loved my surgeon, Dr Snyder at Rose.

Hi Megan,
Sorry it's taken me so long to get back to you. Congrats on the Bypass decision. I am sure it feels wonderful to have the decision made. Have you gotten the approval yet? I may meet you in the hospital after surgery. I volunteer on Weds. and visit the bypass patients that day in the hospital.
I am doing great. Still in my 'goal range' but wanting to get to the lower end of the range. I met with Jessica this week to tweak my diet to see if I can't get there. She gave me some great tips.
As to the lap banders feeling more hunger, I don't think that is necessarily true. I think it's different for different folks. I experienced no hunger after surgery and still haven't much over a year later. By hunger I am meaning physical hunger, of course, I have had the head hunger where I want to eat something but am not really hungry, more because I am stressed, bored, it looks good, etc.

Topic: Considering lap-band
I am a female, 37, 5 9", 245 and considering the lap-band to lose weight, but am really unsure where to even start. I have read that doctors like for you to have tried different methods of losing weight first. I have tried Weigh****chers, Alli, low calorie diets, etc etc etc. My doctor will not perscribe me any perscription drugs to help with the weight loss. I actually think that if I were put on a good weight loss drug, it may help motivate me. I am wondering, have most of you who have had weight loss surgeries, tried drugs prior to doing the surgery and if so, how the heck do you get your dr to even perscribe you the drugs. What drugs worked/didn't work for you?
It seems like they (doctors) are so against perscribing weight loss drugs. While researching, I came across people using Adderall (used for ADHD) short term to help with weight loss. I am willing to try anything, but it is looking like the lap-band might be my last resort. I do not want to go from doctor to doctor trying to figure out what to do. Should I just go to a doctor specializing in bariatric/lap-band surgeries? Will they perscribe meds first to see if I can lose weight that way before actually going through with the procedure. I just don't know who to talk to about this as my gyno and internist are absolutely no help. I was about 220 before I had my baby 4 years ago, and was down to 230 last year, but it seems the more I diet, the more I gain! Now I am back up to 245 and can't even budge a pound lately. I know I need to do something before it gets really out of control, as my joints and back are really starting to hurt and it is impacting my daily life. Help:-)
