Topic: RE: Dr. Schoen

I met Dr Schoen once. I was going to the GI Dr's at University. Lets just say if I listened to him I would not be alive right now and my herniated intestine would have ruptured. He was not to concerned with the amount of abdominal pain I had then as well.  But then that is my exp from just one visit with him. He did not follow though with me either. I got the opinion of him that he did not have the time for me and he was to busy. But then most of the Dr's at University act that way.  I have heard allot of good things about him from  many people he has done a gastric bypass on. SO it might be better to hear from them but this is just an answer on my experience with him. And the GI Docs there. I am not a huge fan of University's Doctors as you can tell but  (In-patent there is pretty good though). But then I am not a huge fan of Swedish Hospital In-patent l either. But the Dr's at Swedish has taken pretty good care of me. Just decide what is best for you and ask ALL the questions you need to as to make you feel comfortable no madder where you go to.

Just my 2 cents worth.

Topic: Time for SMILES!!

Well I have officially lost 235 pounds now!!! not bad!! I have not posted in a bit now and considering I have pissed and moaned for a year and half in here now about everything bad that has happened. How bout some good. Well of course the above. I am walking ALLOT now. Only in the wheel chair at home usually in the evenings when I am exhausted and hurting more. Many of my "pains" are gone now. Can you believe it, my tummy does not hurt anymore. But then it took a hysterectomy, knee replacement  and a herniated intestine getting fixed to stop it. As well as I work part time for the County I live in. I pretty much make my own hours so yes I love my job it works around my medical issues and a great boss that understands. I have a desk at work but I can work from home and in bed, when ever I want to or need to. So guess I got the best of both worlds. If eve3r, it will still be several years before I might be able to work more than part time. But all is good. I will be having that spinal surgery sooner than I want to as well. Like in the next few weeks. I will find out in 2 weeks. But guess the good news is I am working again, belly pain ALL gone and I am finding that I LOVE to walk. I went to the mall 3 weeks ago and WALKED on my feet. no wheel chair for the first time in like 5 years now. WOW that was a biggy for me and to add the cream on top I bought an outfit in one of the shops at the Mall. YES I fit in regular clothing now. Well mostly I still got 75 pounds to loose. Still got crap wrong with me that will never go away no mater how much weight I loose. But with all the weight loss my Dr's are trying to help more actively and can test me to find out and fix what is wrong.  Most that I work with has never seen me in a wheelchair. All GOOD things. As well as my disabled son got a permanent job at the Army Base around the corner from where we live. He will be working part time as well. Full is to much for him to handle and be able to comprehend. He is 20 and it will be real nice having him get out working a few days a week. I think it is good for both of us. Right now I can say I only have 75 more  pounds to loose. It was not that long ago when I us to say I have had 313 pounds to loose. and never even had a hope of ever working again. I look in a mirror and I am starting to see the new me not the old one. And I sooo enjoy the new body. You should see the incredible cloths I have now. Several people at work as commented that  I "Look GREAT" and they love my outfits. Most of them never saw me when I weighed 463 pounds. SO they do not realize how much it really does mean to me when they say it. As a madder of fact at work one of the directors on Friday "which did know me at 463 pounds" said he saw me walk in from the parking lot through the window and I did not even limp a little and that he though I looked great with all the changes in me. (He does not usually say much to most people).  Anyway enough babbling. Just wanted to poke at my friend here and say HI!!

Hi lolo100,
No there aren't any DS Surgeons in Colorado. I chose Rabkin, in CA. He is, if not the best, then one of the best. He is awsome!
Dr. Synder lists the DS, but he doesn't do it.
I had a Vertical Banded Gastroplasty in 1999, and I know that I made the right choice, with my DS, this time.
When we get together, in October, do you want to meet with us? You'd be more than welcome.
Marsha
I owed it to myself to research the Duodenal Switch before consenting to any other weight loss surgery and so do you.  Check out: DSFacts.com and DuodenalSwitch.com for more information.

Congratulations on your surgery.  I hope you are starting to feel well by now & that everything went OK.  I am in Colo Springs. I have been thinking about WLS for some time.  After all my research, I think that the DS is what I would prefer.  I haven't been able to find a DS surgeon in CO.  I assume you could not either, since you have gone to CA.  Dr. Michael Synder is listed on the DS forum surgeon list, but his website does not refer to the DS.

Topic: RE: Dr. Snyder, Insurance and Still On Track!!
Yolanda,

Dr. Snyder performed my surgery on 8/24.  Once you get your approval or denial back, keep me posted!  Dolly received word that I was approved (Aetna), she got me scheduled in approximately a week!

I had my first consult with Dr. Snyder in 2008.  I needed plenty of documentation and a minimum of 6 months medically supervised diet and consultation.  I worked with my PCP for over a year, which I lost about 25 lbs during that time.  NOW I had everything I needed, Nutrition Counseling, Pulminary consult, Pysch eval, had everything Dolly needed to submit.  I was devasted to learn that in 2009 my company had removed Bariactric Surgery from our coverages.  I was DEVASTATED!

I reached out to a few leaders within my company, and was advised I could protest the decision.  As you are aware, this takes months of completing everything, and now that I had done everything required by either Dr. Snyder of the Insurance company, it was no longer a covered procedure.  I did protest and my company added the procedure back into the plan beginning July 2009.

Should you be denied, my advise to you is do not take NO for an answer.  Protest Protest Protest!!!!

Anxious to hear back!
