HI, I'm scheduled to head up  to UHC some time soon for the rny surgery. I have read a lot about learning hospitals and found your experience not out of the ordinary. Here is my question. What would you suggest to help our experience at the hospital better visit ? Please fell free to give as much advice and help as you can recall or may want to share. thx for your time.

Hi Kathy,

You should open your group up to all surgery types, not just bypass.  I think you would have more people join.  Sounds like a fun idea!!

I was just looking at an OH sister's photos on her profile and there was one of her wearing a white top;
the look on her face was so happy and brave!
It got me to remembering...

My Daughter Tori: Your Neighbor needs your

Help!

Hello Everyone.

I haven't been on here in awhile. I've had a lot happen in my life since last October 31st when I had surgery. As some of you know I lost my wife in a car accident on Thanksgiving last year. And since then I have been able to see my Daughter or (Step-Daughter) Tori. But her Father has been trying to get custody of her and my Wife was trying to get his rights taken away from him. which I won't go into because I want you to watch a video that her 1st Husband put together. and that will explain a lot. And all I ask is for you to circulate this Video and if you can write a letter to the Judge telling him your opinion. You can find this on you tube and if you want I'm on Myspace/ricinindy and on Facebook at http://www.facebook.com/home.php?#/profile.php?id=687534515&ref=name

Thank you for Everthing

I want to add the reason He did not serve the 20 to 50yrs was because Mooresville lost the evidence. How do you lose a couch????? Among other thing's.

Also She cryed to me Because her Father told her that she spends to much time with me and her staying the night with me was bad. And when he get's custody of her. she won't see me anymore. How the hell do you tell a 5yr old who's lost so much in her life that your going to take away something else from her? I'm the ONLY DAD SHE KNOW'S! She doesn't know him And she has told me she's scared that he will kill her. which is because she knows what he did to her Twin Brother. She's my Baby and I am just wanting everyone to know what's going on so maybe we can all make a difference in her life!

Topic: NEVER 2 LATE 4 YOUR 1ST DUMPING EPISODE!!!
 TRUE CONFESSION:
I'm 6 1/2 yrs post-op RNY & holding steady for about 5 years as a size 8 AND I'd never experienced the dreaded "dumping" syndrome.

Reading descriptions of the experience on my surgeon's message board put the fear of dumping into me big time! So I never played the cat-and-mouse game of seeing what I might be able to "get away with," in food & beverage choices.

Two nights ago, however, I was taken down by a full-blown dumping episode; AND, it wasn't from eating "forbidden" foods! It snuck up on me like an army of NINJA.

What I realized as the episode began was that the fruit salad I'd made with fresh-but-over-ripe kiwi & bananas, had made portion control hard for me to gauge; that I'd probably eaten the equivalent of 1 kiwi+ 1 banana; and the level of fructose, possibly fermented!, was more than my intestinal tract could manage.

My heart was racing, my head was fizzy, I felt dizzy, I found myself panting, gas cramps followed, I staggered upstairs to where my husband was dead asleep, yelling his name in what sounded to my ears as slurred speech. If I'd been in public, I think most folks would've thought I was falling-down-drunk.

I tried lying down. Bad Idea.
I tried standing bent over our bed. Another Bad Idea.
Something told me my only hope was to walk it off, hanging onto Jim's arm. For 30 min. I walked around our upstairs until I was able to support myself with my sturdy walking stick.
Jim went downstairs & came up with a 32 oz. bottle of filtered water with sugar-free Propel lemon powder diluted 50%. I started drinking the water through a straw & walking.

I asked Jim to go  online to OBESITY HELP to see what they said to do for dumping & was told nothing was gonna get better til things got through my small intestines. So I figured the walking & water would force the issuel

It did & I fell into bed at midnight, propped up on my back - about 100 min. after it began. It wasn't over, but it was at a level where my fatigue could overpower everything else & I fell asleep.

So what have I learned?

I have to be as careful around fresh fruit salads as any salad bar or buffet banquet.
Fructose is sugar. My intestinal tract did not deduct calories for fructose vs. high fructose corn syrup.

It has been an exhausting, frightening and educational experience. Sunday, I felt like a limp dishrag.  Jim & I took a walk through the Chattahoochee Nature Center to enjoy our first gloriously sunny day in weeks; but I was walking slowly and still feeling mentally fuzzy.  Today, I felt normal.

My hope is that by sharing it with you, I can prevent some other long-time post-op from going through the dreaded dumping syndrome!

Blessings,
Lauralyn

I met Dr Schoen once. I was going to the GI Dr's at University. Lets just say if I listened to him I would not be alive right now and my herniated intestine would have ruptured. He was not to concerned with the amount of abdominal pain I had then as well.  But then that is my exp from just one visit with him. He did not follow though with me either. I got the opinion of him that he did not have the time for me and he was to busy. But then most of the Dr's at University act that way.  I have heard allot of good things about him from  many people he has done a gastric bypass on. SO it might be better to hear from them but this is just an answer on my experience with him. And the GI Docs there. I am not a huge fan of University's Doctors as you can tell but  (In-patent there is pretty good though). But then I am not a huge fan of Swedish Hospital In-patent l either. But the Dr's at Swedish has taken pretty good care of me. Just decide what is best for you and ask ALL the questions you need to as to make you feel comfortable no madder where you go to.

Just my 2 cents worth.

Topic: Invite to join a new kind of support group in the Springs.

What we do is go out in the community and have some fun. This is not a structured group like Penrose. We go to lunch, movies, comedy clubs, just about anywhere. We just go out and have a little fun with other people that are just like us. We pretty much go where its members want to go. If you are in or near Colorado Springs please come join us. This is the URL to join the group and get the invites to activities. Several here in OH are members as well. I hope a few of you might want to join us. We do not have huge numbers of members like other places but then we are just getting started. It is for Pre and Post op Bypass patents. If you want to go have a little fun please do come join us.

Well welcome to OH it has been incredible for me and everything I have been through. As there is Bypass support group at Penrose, n Ft Carson and a Bypass Social Group you can request to get the information for and invites of activities  at  http://groups.yahoo.com/group/CoSpringsBypassSocial/   It is a newer group and they just go out in the community and have fun going places and socializing. It is not a structured thing like Penros. It is to just go out and have fun with other people that understand you. All is welcome there pre and post op.
