Topic: RE: Waiting For Approval!!!
Hi again - well my BMI was 42 but they (AETNA) said I wasn't obese enough. I met their criteria and yet still denied. I didn't appeal because my surgery was 2 days from the denial, who knows how long it would take to submit and get an appeal reviewed. Plus the new year I have new insurance so I didn't want to start over.
Please keep me in the loop - I'm crossing everything I have hoping you'll get approved.
Hey do you or will you attend support groups in the area? I'm planning to attend the Westminster and the NorthGlenn ones. Maybe others too. You?

Hi Jackie,
Thanks for your encouragement. I'm glad you "slipped" upon this post.
I have been reading, reading and reading some more. I've searched the internet.
Talked with folks who have had success and some that had regrets.
How long ago did you have your surgery? It doesn't sound like you have any reqrets.
What in your opinion is the best thing about WLS and the worst thing about WLS.
How or what could I do to be better prepared physically, emotionally, socially etc.?
Hugs back to you,
Annie

I am trying to maintain my patience. I feel that NOW the documents have been received and I had a verbal confirmation from the supe I spoke with, it should be easy peasy at this point!!
I will call her, though!!
I just want to get there!! ;)
What is it they mean by NOT OBESE ENOUGH. JAYSIS. I am SUPER MORBIDLY OBESE based on the BMI Calculator on this site.
SUPER !! I mean, COME ON. Insurance Co's have a good racket, that's for sure.
I am so glad you love your band and are doing well!!
I can't wait for my RNY!
EDITED TO ADD: My pic, the one of me at Stonehenge, is 10 years old. I am WAY fatter now!

Topic: RE: I'm investigating surgical weight loss
Hi Ann!
Almost don't even talk about weight loss surgery anymore since I've been at goal for awhile and I mostly hang out on forums where we talk about other stuff! by accident I ended up on this forum (slip of the cursor) so, what the heck, I'll post.
I would strongly advise everyone considering surgery to send some time researching all the types available. depending on where you are, almost all to all of the info you may get could be about the band or bypass.
for example, I came to OH wondering about getting a band. learned about VSG and that is what I eventually got - I could not be more pleased! also never heard of the DS but if I needed & wanted the malabsorption that would be the surgery I'd get.
I also encourage you to choose what surgery will work best for you and THEN choose a surgeon. If you think your insurance won't cover it, you should know that a denial can be fought and won.
I didn't have insurance and so was self pay. In the end, it's been a blessing since I was forced to study, learn, and take responsibility for all the steps.
I wish you very good luck - nothing to be ashamed about, WLS is a fantastic step to take!
hugs,
Jackie

once upon a time I had a group to talk about Binge Eating Disorder, and later one about Clean Eating.
PM me if you are interested in either of these.

I've heard the name before but I went with Dr. Snyder and I'm thrilled with my decision. Perfectionist to the core, I felt in good hands from start to finish. Now its up to me. www.denverbariatrics.com
Best of luck!

I'm glad you are able to maintain your patience. I still don't understand why my insurance company stated I wasn't obese enough. Its shocking really. But I have put it in the past and now I'm just working my band. I'm sure you will be here soon

Topic: RE: Waiting For Approval!!!
Since my insurance advised me and insurance guru at Surgeon's office that they did NOT have my clinicals on 12/7, I called on 12/8 and spoke to a supervisor.
NOW, they DO have the clinicals and I got a call yesterday from supervisor advising she walked all 47 pages down to medical review.
How could they have lost the first lot!? It was sent 11/3 and 11/5.
I was told all that was received was a letter of medical necessity.
I don't believe it! Now, I am waiting.
I did receive a DENIAL letter, because NO CLINICALS.
I filed it away and when supervisor called me back, I addressed that letter with her.
She stated that NOW they DO have the clinicals so ignore it.
I will be calling said insurance CO. every day, come Monday.
I have done everything, jumped through all the hoops.
Patience is not one of my strong suits!
Waiting waiting waiting!!!
Thanks for reading!
Cheers,
Megan
