Topic: Planned Revision lapband -> RNY
March 24, 2010 -
I had lap-band surgery in 2005, I was at 325 weight wise.
I lost about 90 lbs, but in the last two years my weight has been creeping up again,
and I am back up to about 272.
Having real issues with the band..horrible, horrible uncontrolled heartburn, using
over the counter meds, prescript meds and filling in with a handfull of tums, usually at
3am.
I also started having bad stomach cramping after eating, and I think it was caused
by the hearburn causing excess gas(I was constantly burping), and for some reason
it started not wanting to work its way out. I did find out that voluntarily vomiting got rid
of the stomach ache which would get so bad it would make me throw up anyway,
so I just started to vomit sooner rather than later.
I had a complete unfill on march 5th.(2010)
I am planning on doing a sleeve gastrectomy, I had my band taken out on
4/21, now for the sleeve!
The surgery with Dr Brown at Colorado Choice Bariatrics in Canon City.
Wish me luck!

Yvonne,
Thanks so much! I work at the Fed Center on 6th and Kipling, I leave around 445 heading NW for Brighton. I'm hoping to have a place down this part of Denver when my house sells in Oregon (sigh) right now I live in my daughter's home, so it's a 28 mile commute every morning and evening, 45 minutes or so. I'm not sure I will make it back down this Thursday, but I'm putting it on my calendar.
I missed the Fitness Center on Friday, should have gone yesterday, but Mondays are difficult sometimes, aren't they! I need to go 3 X a week, trying hard to establish a habit, but very difficult, and I still feel ugly and have "public appearance" issues!
Will see you hopefully soon!

Topic: New to Denver
Hi all,
moved here in December, had my RNY surgery in Oregon in June 09. I've plateaued at 70 lbs loss, a lot of the problem is staying with my daughters until house sold in Oregon, and too much gnoshing. Ironically, I can eat little crunchy things, it's the regular food I can only get down about 6 oz of, still get hungry an hour or so after I eat. I will continue with the protein drinks for breakfast for the rest of my life, I think, and I've started at the fitness center to work on the wingflaps and turkey neck, and inner thighs....I'm over 50, so the skin issues are bugging me. I look my age for the first time in my adult life I think as well.
BUT no longer diabetic, since a few weeks after the surgery
Off all blood pressure meds since in the hospital
No more cholesterol meds
In fact, no prescription meds at all, hooray! and the energy is fabulous, and I want more
Looking for a support group anywhere between Lakewood where I work, and Brighton where I'm living for the time being.
May decide to go back to OA for the gnoshing and food addiction issues (and the starbucks frappucino twice a week!)
So, long and short? I need the support group again, I need to get over the hump and get below 200 (started out at 304) and I need to fellowship with other people in the same experiences
Home email [email protected]
As I recall, replies to postings I get an email....
thanks!

i too used Dr. Fisher at CSSA. However you need to be prepared, they don't let you talk to the doc or even make an appointment with the do****il after you have attended a class about your desired surgery, RNY or Lapband if you are not sure you have to go to both classes, given by the bariatric coordinator with Penrose hospital. They will ask you if you have already atended the class when you call to make the appointment. Also the classes can sometimes be hard to get into, I asked in April 2008 for a spot in the RNY class and had to wait until June 2008 for an open seat. but after that things went pretty quickly.

If I were doing this, I would start by googling, "Bariatric Self Pay Denver CO". Those 5 search terms together should bring up just that. Then I would go to the surgeons website as if they accept self pay, they probably have experience with folks that need to use the medical credit companies.
If you need help with research, please email me and I would be willing to help you at least get started.
I know of two doctors that have self pay for lapband, but didn't see in your posting what type of surgery he is wanting.
Also, you have probably already been down this road, but did you appeal the insurance companies denial?

Hi Syndee,
Have you looked into Care Credit or other similar companies? It works like a credit card and most physicians take it. I dont know anyone specifically, but my guess is that those surgeon groups who are not affiliated with a hospital (like the ones at University or Denver Health) would be most likely. I have a friend who had some kind of payment plan. I will find out who her surgeon was and more of the details and get back to you when I hear from her.

there are companies that help finance medical procedures. Get out the phone book and start calling or searching for centers of excellence. The doctors office coordinator might be able to help direct you.
