Topic: RE: New to CO Board, Support Group (having a DS)
Thanks! I am still finishing up some tests before I can get my surgery date, this process seems to take a while (or I am just really impatient!! haha!)
I might try the support group at AIP since it is close, does anyone know how big it is? I did take a nutrition class with Kelly before I switched procedures and she was great so I wouldn't mind seeing her again. Maybe I will contact her directly and see how much it costs.
Talk to you all soon! Kj

Hi,
I know that the support groups that meet at Swedish, Skyridge & University Hospitals allow others to attend but they have to pay something (I'm not sure what amt)
There are other groups that meet in the Denver area that would be at no cost.
When is your surgery?
Keep us posted on how you are.
Hugs
Annie

Hey all,
My surgeon is in Texas and I will not be using a local hospital. I was originally going to have a RNY and was going to go to Swedish but after further research decided on the DS. There are no local DS sugeons so I will be going to stay with my Dad in Texas for surgery. Do you know if your support group will accept people that didn't have surgery there?

If you still need a primary doc, you should try Dr. Brien Whittington. He helped me gt approved 3 years ago and does a lot of my follow up now. He sends my blood work to the surgeon so I do not have to see both.

There is also a website called www.C25k.com that will give you the tools to go from sedentary to running 5k's over time. Pretty much the same as the cool runnings website.

I started going to new medical weight loss clinic in Cherry Creek. It’s called Cherry Creek Medical Weight Loss. They have a great staff and personal trainer. I’ve been on their program along with the nutrition and training help and I’ve lost 10 lbs in 2 weeks. I would suggest trying this program before surgery. Surgery was a last resort to me. Check them out.

all you have to do is take that first step! You might even surprise yourself! If you have been sedentary I would just start with walking 15-20 mins at a time then increase up to 30 mins. Once you can comfortably do 30 mins then I would work on adding speed. I know you can do it!
