Topic: Need some info on GB....and Medicaid
I am wondering if there are any members here that have had their RNY covered by Medicaid.  I had my RNY here in NY, but my daughter is wanting to have RNY done in Colorado.  What is the "typical" procedure and clearances needed??? I am assuming that there has to be some co-morbidities with weight.
I had to have pulmonary, cardiac, primary physician and psych evals and clearances, and wondering if this is the norm in Colorado with Medicaid.
I'd appreciate if anyone can help me out with some info on how long it takes, tests and clearances needed, and physician recommendations.  Thanks so much, Lena

Topic: PCP that is lapband friendly
 Hi all,
I am trying to find a PCP that believes in the lap-band. I need one down in the four corners area. Any suggestions would be awesome. Not having much luck at all!
Thanks,

Topic: RE: PCP that will prescribe
 Hi,
I am also from Durango. I was on phentermine at one point also. I got it from a doc in Cortez. Unfortunately he is no longer around. (my insurance only requires a BMI of 35.) Do you know of  any doctors that believe in the lap band procedure in Durango? I am having a hard time finding a doc that will recommend it.
Thanks

Topic: PCP that will prescribe
I live in Durango and spend a lot of time in Denver. I need to do something about my weight because I feel terrible! I found this site onLap Band Surgery in Denver and it had a nice little info report, but I'm thinking now about trying Phentermine again. It worked really well for me about 10 years ago (I'm 45 now), but I don't know how to find a doctor that's willing to prescribe it. (My BMI is 'only' 38, so I don't think I can get a lap-band.)

Thanks Cheryl-it's not a moot point at all.  I'm out of town for a month and will be coming back home soon.

So you had RNY even at a lower BMI?  I've so far seen mostly bands.  Did your insurance cover if you don't mind me asking?

thanks again for your response.

Hi Jeninco,
THis may be a moot point by now. Just saw your thread. But anyway, Dr. Quaid is my surgeon in Ft. Collins. I too had a BMI of about 35 but was approved for surgery because of  other health issues and family history of diabetes and heart problems.
I would reccommend you start by contacting their office and asking to attend the nurses seminar for baratric surgery.
Best wishes for you.
Cheryl
