My PCP is in Woodland Park- Dr. Casie Chen- and yes, she's worth going up the mountain to see.

Topic: RE: Need some info on GB....and Medicaid
I am on Colorado Medicaid and am just beginning the process (awaiting surgery date.)

Here's what I know.  Yes- Colorado Medicaid requires that you have at least a BMI of 40.  And, yes you have to have some co-morbidities.  I'm going the University of Colorado Hospital and my doc is Dr. Schoen.  I was told when I put my name on the waiting list (only a month ago) that there was a 6month wait.  Well, they called me a week ago last friday and my name came up.  I went to my appointment and met the criteria for Gastric Bypass.  I chose that over Lap-Band because they're finding that the Lap-Band isn't having good long term success.  Medicaid won't pay for the Gastric Sleeve bc they don't have statistics and long term success. So, that left me w/the Gastric Bypass.  I have to complete a Nutrition Class (mine is September 19th) and that has to be paid for in CASH out of pocket- Medicaid won't cover it.  Thank God my Dad offered up his wallet- he wants to see me happy & healthy.  I also have to have a psych evaluation.  There is a Psychologist in Colorado Springs (where I live) that takes Medicaid for WLS.  The two docs that Univ of CO Hospital recommended in Denver take respectively $180 and $200 out of pocket and won't accept Medicaid.  Why if I live in Colorado Springs did I go to Aurora? LOL- No docs down here who do WLS accept Medicaid.  Anyways, I was told by the scheduler, that as soon as the class and psych eval were done, she could submit a prior auth to Medicaid and that they take exactly 34 days to approve (and that is actual days, not business days.)

I hope this answers your questions.

Good Luck to Your Family & God Bless,
Mel

Topic: Does anyone know of a Clothes swap?
Hey all,
I am just about grown out of my 28 and 26 size clothes and will be needing some 22s and 20s. Does anyone know of a clothes swap at one of the support groups or otherwise?

I know I can go to the thrift shops as well and will do that but just thought I would check.

Thanks, Kj

Topic: RE: Surgeon who performs DS in Colo?
Hey KB,
I am sorry it took so long to respond, I don't check the Colorado page very often. I had a DS 7/26 and I traveled to just outside Dallas, Texas for surgery. There is not a vetted DS surgeon in Colorado.

I know Tara also traveled and she went to Dr. Anthone in Nebrasks for her surgery.

Let me know if you have any questions I can answer. Feel free to PM me.

I had surgery at Sky Ridge but I dont want to drive down there for the support group meeting. Anyone know of one near Thornton? I would even be willing to host one if there were enough interest.
Surgery Date June 14th, 2010.

Topic: RE: LOOKING FOR SUPPORT IN SOUTHERN CO
Hi,
I don't live in Colorado, but I do live in Moab, UT.  I'm almost 5 years out so maybe I can answer your questions, and I certainly can give you support.  And yes, thinness is a word, (I think), but it is a state of mind!!!
What kind of surgery did you have? or are you still waiting?  Who is your surgeon? Hospital?
Anyway, good luck.
You can contact me directly if you want at [email protected]
Good bless,
Kimberly

Topic: Need Idea where to go to dinner.
HI all,
I will be in Denver the week of Sept 14th.  I will be down at the Hyatt Regency Convention Center.  Was wondering if anyone had any good places to Eat or Bars to go to in walking distance.

Well I had thought about the band, but after discussion with my surgeon and PCP, I learned that when a bmi is higher than 43 the problems with the band increase quite a bit. I was 57 bmi - I went with the RNY - I've lost about 128 pounds and just over a year out and a week.

Type 1 diabetic for 25 years - pumping for 12 years.

Awesome! I would appreciate that very much.  I am just starting my 6 month diet with the pcp.  I'm pretty certain I have picked a surgeon. Dr Johnell , however I am a little caught up on deciding between the band or the sleeve.  Any feedback would be greatly appreciated!
