Topic: RE: Need some info on GB....and Medicaid
Hi there,
I have Colorado Medicaid, traditional. I called around to the different bariatric surgeons, all of which are on the Medicaid list as contracted doctors. Dr. Shoen (sp) with University Hospital in Aurora is taking patients, but has a 3 month waiting list and requires a referral from a primary care physician. None of the other docs are taking new patients. EXCEPT Dr. Matthew Metz in Parker. He does not require a referral from a PCP (neither does traditional medicaid). I had my consultation on 10/6, my prior authorization was approved dated 10/14/10 and I'm having my RNY surgery covered 100% on 12/14/2010 at Parker-Adventist Hospital. I could have had it this month or early November, but I am a full time student/SAHM and needed to wait til the end of my college semester.

Topic: RE: MEDICAID AND MEDICARE SURGEONS LIST!
As of October 1, 2010, there is only ONE bariatric surgeron that is taking NEW medicaid patients for surgery. He is located in Parker, CO and the surgeries are done at Parker-Adventist Hospital.
I was just approved by Colorado Medicaid for RNY surgery. The office staff put in the request for prior authorization on 10/7/10 and my letter came in the mail this past week. The prior auth is dated 10/14/2010. There is no longer any 6 month waiting period or requirement for medically supervised diet, but you do have to be at least 100 pounds overweight or have co-morbidities to get the surgery covered if you are under a certain BMI.
My surgery date is 12/14/2010...after a decade of being told no by private insurers. Medicaid is paying 100%.

FYI--Dr. Metz is WONDERFUL as is his staff. He is currently on the board is writing the Medicaid guidelines for bariatric surgery.

Topic: Surgery on 12/14
Hi there,
I'm Leza, and I live in Wheat Ridge with my partner and 4 year old twin girls. I am having RNY surgery on 12/14 with Dr. Metz in Parker.
I have some conditions that may not go away with weight loss surgery such as fibromyalgia and PCOS, so that makes me very nervous. I am still optimistic that I can kill the hypertension, high cholesterol, high triglycerides, type 2 diabetes, tendonitis, acid refulx and asthma issues. I am only 34 and have more health problems than both my parents combined!!
I am also looking for support groups in the area, but have no idea where to look or who to call. I'm thinking Overeater's Anon might be good. I am also going to start counseling next month through Jefferson Center for Mental Health.

Thank you for the support. I believe with alot of school districts..they get a good rate if 100% of employees are on plan. It was sad to turn it down but I havent worked this hard for this long to throw it away. Thank God for my husband having excellent insurance..it is worth more than gold.

THAT is ridiculous!!!! Why would they force you to take their insurance, when you are happy as pie with your husband's coverage?? Why is it any of their business which insurance you choose (or really, if you choose to have any at all)??? Ugh!! Sorry that happened, but things happen for a reason, and that job was not meant for you! Good luck in your job search, and good luck with your surgery!!!

Morning gang-
So..I have been on the job hunt for 3 months now and have had little luck. I finally got an offer from the local high school and thought all our money problems and such was a thing of the past. I went in to sign papers and found out that the district has a 100% particiapation health plan. What this means to me is that I am required to take their insurance as my primary hence being dropped from my husbands very good insurance. I was so upset..I havent worked this hard to find a insurance to cover WLS only to blow it for a minimum paid job. I have tried every way to figure out how to get around this mandatory insurance thing but it isn;t going to work. So..I called and declined the job and am still broke and jobless..lol. This surgery means the world to me and I hope there is something out there that will allow me to work AND get WLS. Thanks for listening.
