Topic: Am I eating too much?

I'm concerned that I'm eating too much because I've only lost 4 pounds since the 14th of November.  I can eat about 1/2 cup of food now.  I read somewhere that after bypass surgery, we only absorb about 40% of the calories that we take in and I only take in about 800 calories a day.  How can I not be losing weight faster?  The doctor said at my last appointment that I was doing fine, but I'm worried.  I was getting hungry in the afternoon and eating a 4th time.  Lisa, the dietician said that I should try eating more at lunch ( I was doing string cheese, and maybe a fat-free hot dog, no bread).  She suggested 1/2 sandwich or salad with chicken.  I've been doing that and am not losing now.  I'm eating more carbo...I made the mistake of finding sugar free cookies that I like.  But even at that, it's still only about 800 calories a day. Should I go back to eating only protein?  Maybe it's because I'm not walking as much.  I don't know, I'm just depressed that I don't seem to be losing. Thanks for letting me ramble. Cindy

I had laproscopic gastric bypass surgery.  If you are having the lapband it might be just fine to go aon vacation, because that is less invasive.

Topic: RE: Ft.Carson surgery, any insights?
Thanks for the info.  He seems pretty cool.  I am what they call a "light weight" ( i am just at the required 40 BMI) so i havent been cutting anything out for fear of not being able to have my surgery.  Dr. Imlay told me to wear heavy clothes and drink a lot of water for my final weigh-in, LOL.  I went to my 1 "required" support group meeting, but havent been to any others.  I actually live in Briargate, so it is a long way after working all day ;o)  How long did you have to stay at the hospital, like what day was your surgery and what day did you go home?  Mine is on a tues. and i am hoping to go home on friday.  How soon after were you up and around?  I have to go back to work on the 3rd of Jan. so i am hoping i will be ok.  A friend of mine had surgery on tues. went home on fri. and was at the flea market on sat.  I finally went out and got all my post-surgery foods and vitamins.  i think i have everything now...  well, thanks again for the info.  sorry for all the questions ;O)  I know several people who have had the surgery, but i wanted first hand knowledge from someone who had the same surgeon and the same hospital.   oh, one more question...  how long did it take for the "dirty" hole to heal?  the one you have to pack and keep open when you go home? thanks again! I had my surgery June 25th at Ft Carson and Dr. Imlay was my Doctor. He is a really good doctor. You should like him. You don't have a specific diet pre surgery but the nutrionist does mention that you should start to cut out all sugery and fatty foods so that your not craxing them after surgery. I had a wonderful expericance with Dr. Imlay and with the hospital staff. He is a very good Dr and your for sure in good hands. Do you go to the support group at Ft. Carson? I have only been a few times, but alot of the ladies there have Dr. Wilson so your experiances and stuff with the Doctors are alot different. Good Luck on your surgery and If you need anything I'm here for you.

Hi Heather! i had dr K as a surgeon also!   Everyone is different on thier recover times...i could have probably handled vacation that much time after surgury, but some wouldnt be able to... The hard part will be you will still have to be on the prescribed diet and it will be harder in mexico than elsewhere. You would also probably be able to not do much more than lying around soaking in the mexico sun (sounds terrible huh?)

I don't have first-hand knowledge, but have heard only WONDERFUL things about the Ft. Carson docs and surgery staff.  I'm sure you'll be in great hands. My surgical group doesn't do any special diet either, I had a great "last supper" at Biaggi's the night before my surgery. Take care, you'll be soooo glad you did this!
