Topic: Going Bariatric on a Budget
I live in Wheat Ridge and am now almost 3 months out. I've started a blog and FB page with the eventual goal of starting a bariatric food store in our area. That is in the VERY early stages of planning. All are welcome to check us out, I just developed the blog and FB page this week.
I am really interested in working with bariatric patients who are struggling with nutrition, particularily those that have hit a rough spot financially (then again, who isn't right now??). Medicaid paid for my surgery in December 2010 and although I'm only a short while out, I have been researching and trying to get on this bandwagon for just over 10 years.
I'm working on ways to eat properly and get enough nutrients in when you're in a situation that requires the use of programs such as USDA Commodities, SNAP (food stamps), WIC, etc.

Topic: RE: Planned Revision lapband -> RNY
i am having same problem just had unfill in er my band became to tight choking my stomach. i just think that when i had my surgery the only approved band in us was the smaller one and probable not the best choice and most of us will probaply inevitably have problems. the newer bands allow more adjustment.

Thank you for your honesty! I don't come to this decision lightly and I really want to do my homework before I choose something that will forever alter my life. I'm sorry to hear about his staff. It seems I will be continuing to look into this until my red flags become green ones.
I'm also sorry to hear about your lack of support and that his inability to help you at post-op for refills has hindered your progress! I hope he knows how his lack of support has hurt your weight-loss goals. I'm interested to hear what becomes of everything for you. Take care and congratulations on the 40+ pounds!

Topic: RE: Dr. Michael Snyder
Hi Rose. I have nothing bad to say about Dr. Snyder's experience nor his surgical staff's abilities as well (Amanda is amazing). His office staff I am less than thrilled with but have always been fine dealing with any disappointment in his office staff because being able to see Amanda was worth it. However, now that his office is so under-staffed (both in the office and the medical team), service has really collapsed. I do not think I am just being impatient but waiting 2+ months to get in for a fill is not ideal. I am not familiar with RNY surgery, maybe it does not require as much follow-up as a band (with the band you need to have it filled and/or unfilled). So, for the surgery/quality of medical care, experience and knowledge - I totally recommend Dr. Snyder's office. My "warning" would be the follow-up care - how difficult will it be to get in to see Dr. Snyder and/or his medical staff post-op (especially as time/months go by - I'm sure in the immediate time you will get in for all necessary follow-up as needed).
Good luck - even with all frustrations and some minor complications I've had, I still would do this surgery all over again. Unfortunately, I've gained back approx 30 of my lost pounds during this time my band has not been functioning well, but I am still 40+ pounds down.

Topic: General Doctor??
Hello Everyone-
I live in Durango, the southwest corner of our state, and I am just starting the bariatric surgery process. One of the criteria is getting a doctor's approval, BUT.... the problem is that I do not have a doctor. To tell you the truth... I have never found a doctor that has understood the complexity, difficulty, and emotionality of being morbidly obese. Does anyone have recommedations for a compassionate doctor in my area? I'm willing to travel a bit, if needed, in order to finally find a doctor who understands. Thank you for your help.
