Topic: RE: just home after surgery/ question too!!

Welcome home!  When I came home from the hospital I couldn'****ch enough cooking shows!!  They didn't make me hungry or crave anything, but for some reason I craved cooking shows.  Thank goodness for the Food Network.   Seems as I was on clear liquids for atleast a few days.  I can't remember now, but the first two weeks were clear liquids and full liquids which was anything that could be blended to the consistency of liquid.  No lumps and nothing that had to be chewed.  I suppose it depends on what the doc meant by smushy.  But  I think I agree with the nutritionist. Glad to hear you are doing okay.  And Vivk1010, too. Jerra

Thanks to all of you.  It's been a journey, I stalled for 7 days and even gained 1.5 lbs, but have since lost it and more.  So I realize that this journey will take time and I just have to sit back and enjoy the ride.

Tami, Congrats on getting home quickly, I didn't have to have a port so not sure about that, so glad I didn't.  I TOTALLY know what you mean about not being hungry on bit but craving food - it's a weird thing.  I don't get hungry at all but know I have to eat - you will have to make yourself eat on a schedule when you get to that point.  As far as instructions, all I have ever heard is clear liquids for a week after surgery, that's what I had to do, then full liquids like yogurt, creamy soups etc... for another week, then blended and on.  Maybe  your Dr. was confused or thinking/talking about a different period.  Hope that helps. Jen

Topic: just home after surgery/ question too!!

Wanted to let everyone know I am doing ok, some pain (bump where my port is?) It is weird, I am not hungry, but find myself wanting food! LOL sheesh I have a question. My doc and my nutritionist gave me conflicting instructions on what to eat. Nutritionist says clear liquids; doc says smushy foods? I am going with nutritionist. any suggestions? Tami PS  Vivk1010 is doing well, she said she wasn't doing too bad for getting hit by a truck!

Topic: RE: Opinions on Dr. Frank Chae @ Skyridge Medical
Sorry to sound dumb, I'm still learning how to use these forums and I can't see where I can "PM" you.  So, hopefully posting is ok for now. But, I just had my surgery 2.5 weeks ago with Dr. Chae and I think he's great!  He has a wonderful bedside manner....very sweet & humble.  I adore his staff.  Since they're the ones I actually correspond with more than Chae, I would definitely say I am closer to them and they REALLY know what they're doing.  I originally was trying to have my surgery with Dr.Snyder at Rose, but his insurance liason was so useless, helpless and uncaring and offered no direction or support that I gave up on them.  It was my husbands boss that had already had his surgery in the amount of time I was fighting with Snyders office....he referred me to Dr.Chae's office and with the same insurance they were able to offer guidance and a plan to insure that I would have the necessary documents to get approved.  anyway, I just can't say enough good things about Dr. Chae, Kelly Elliot (NUT) and Susie Arnold (Insurance Liason).  They rock!!  It's thanks to all their dedication and hard work that i was finally able to be approved for surger!   Best of luck no matter what decison you make!

Topic: RE: Rose Medical Center info?
Im going into Rose medical center on Jan. 14 2008, thats less that 7 days away, for my Gastric bypas. Dr Snyder is my surgeon. YES they are a center of excellence. Dr Snyder has done over 1700  Gastric Bypasses, Most are done laproscopically (which is much safer), He has had only one death in all of those surgeries (that is wayyyyy below statics for death rates). They do tons of testing to make sure they beleive you and your body are ready and capable of handling the new changes. They are an excellent hospital so far and I researched for two years previous to deciding to go with them, I had to make sure I was getting the best of the best, and in my opinion Dr Snyder is the best in colorado, if not the nation. You have to start by calling for info, then going to one of his free seminars before he will even let you see him. All of the hoops are well worth the jumps and time. This is your life that is on the line and only the best should hold your life in their hands, make sure you do your homework, in the end the work you do now will pay off in health benefits! Hope this helps!

Topic: RE: Ft.Carson surgery, any insights?
Sorry if this is slightly off-topic.. I had my WLS done in SC in April, but since then hubby has been stationed at Carson.  Can someone give me info on the support groups here???  I've never been to one, but I wouldn't mind trying it out..unfortunately there's not a wealth of info provided on where to go or who to talk to.  I haven't even met anyone here who's had it...  :)  Thanks!
