Hi Kathy, I had Dr Tillquist also. I did the nutrition class in November before I even saw Dr Tillquist. They submitted my paperwork to the insurance in December and I got approved within 24 hours. I had surgery in February. of that year. I am 6 years out and have lost 155 pounds.  Carla Klein a Florida transplant!!!!!

Topic: Just wondering...UPDATED 3-19
Just wondering how long it took for some of you between the time you had all your releases compleate and the date of your actual surgery. Basicley how many problems did your inc give or how long did you have to wate and for what reason till you actualy had it done. I have Medicare. Anyone with any idea they can give me I would appreciate it. Kathy UPDATED:::3-19-08  I have all my clearances and releases complete. There is nothing left for me to get signed off on.  If you read my profile you will see I have been tying to get a bypass for over 4 years now. I am just waiting for the call now for the date. Was wondering how long some people waited from the time you completed everything to the date of surgery. Kathy

Surgery does crazy things to our bodies. I lost around 45 lbs the first month...but alot of it was loss of hydration. Right after surgery when we come home from the hospital if you get on the scale most of us way more than before surgery...because we were pumped full of fluids at the hospital. Then it becomes the difficult chore of keeping hydrated. I think every gallon of water weighs 8 lbs. At two months I had lost around 65 lbs and I was dissapointed because I had lost so much more the first month...then my surgeon told me I was doing better than expected and the slowing of weight loss was because I was actually keeping hydrated. You'll lose alot at first and as time goes by it slows and slows until it creeps and crawls. Remember to track the inches you've lost. I hope your doing well as you come up on your one month since surgery mark!

Topic: RE: 13 days out
Oh I remember those times! I am a day shy of my one year anniversary. There are going to be times where the food is just awful and your sick of having to deal with all the details of the diet you need to have and what your body tolerates. But you get through it. The bad times get less and less. You get to eat and tolerate better and better foods. It's hard to say what you should try because everyone is soooo different. What one person can eat is terrible for another. You just have to try a few things. Try only one item at a time so you can tell if you tolerate it or not. Sometimes it can take an hour for too much sugar, too much food, eating too quickly, and all sorts of other changes to hit you. Your body will let you know if it doesn't want whatever your trying to do. I didn't eat anything at all for the first month. I had sugar free popsicles and tried to drink water...needless to say I had to go to the ER for IVs and had terrible gastric pain once I did start eating. Make sure you drink plenty of good fluids. Take the eating slow and try and find foods you can have that you enjoy. I know it's hard to only have a small spoonfull of something...but it will get better. Stay focused and positive. Good luck!!!! ~ Christal

Topic: RE: IV in neck?
I have not had these surgeons. I have heard of doctors putting in very IV's in strange places because of possible complications, but it's only something I've heard of in a round about fashion. My daughter was born premature and had IV's put in all spots on her head, neck, legs, arms, hands...everywhere! It looked awful, but you just have to remember that as they say "this too shall pass". Talk to your surgeon to see what their policy is and why if your concerned. My drain tube from gastric bypass surgery was taken out two days after surgery...I had very little drainage. They didn't have to empty it out at all. I know that drain tubes are left in for quite a long time with a tummy tuck. Once again you just gotta talk to your surgeon and see what they do. My doctor leaves one of the laproscopic holes open and we have to pack it closed ourselves with gauze (most have a spouse do it). It's horrible, painful, and caused an infection in me. But every doctor/hospital is different and do things the way they believe is best. My hospital does this because a few studies have shown that allowing this "dirty" hole to heal from the inside out in this fashion of packing actually causes less infections and resurgeries. (One hole in laprscopic surgeries is considered to be dirtier than the rest because it is moved in and out for the different tools for the operation...the rest are cameras). Most places do not do this so you shouldn't worry yourself. But everyone needs to get as many details of what's going to happen before, during and after surgery so they are prepared. Good luck!

Topic: CAN U STAND LAUGHING 4 60-seconds?

As a former hospital chaplain and parish minister, I know the value of giving myself a "laughter break!" when I feel myself getting caught up in anxiety  or melancholy.

A few days ago, I caught something on camera  that seemed to tell a short story. I edited down the photos to 7, added captions and here it is (just click on the tabloid title)!

"DIET NIGHTMARE! SECRET EATER CAUGHT ON CAMERA!"(C)

Feel free to pass it on to whomever you think needs a laughter "quickie!"

Lovingly sent,

Has anyone had surgery with Dr. Chae/Dr. Metz/Dr.Brown and did you have an IV in your neck the day of surgery? I guess not all surgeons do this.  Also, do any of these surgeons have you go home with a drain tube in? Thanks,

Topic: For What it's worth...Traveling to Boulder
Hello, my name is Paul.  I am from Minnesota and am active on the MN page when I can be.  I've had two WLS, and have come a long way but not even close to my goal.  Well, you can read my profile if you would like.  But I am coming to Boulder for one night.  I'll be in town for a half day then returning home.  I am a sucker for Irish Pubs and love Irish music.  Wow, I am lucky that I will be there a week from tomorrow (the Sunday before STPATRICKS and can't wait to get to Conor O'Neills and have my fix of Irishness.  I just thought I would through this out to anyone who would care to join me next Sunday evening.  Or maybe you already have plans to go and you can let me know so I can find you.  Don't be shy....I'm not. Who is willing to give it a go? Paul
