hello everyone!
Well its been 2 months exactly today since my surgery and I feel great!!!!  I have so much more energy and am not tired after work like before.  I have lost 53 pounds and the nurse told me I have lost 22% of my body fat.  I am so glad I did this and its the best thing thats happened to me...i am ready for a new start.

How is everyone else doing and how do you feel????

Topic: Post Op Fears
Hey All, Something has really been on my mind lately so I thought who better to ask than you guys! I am post op just over 3 years. I've lost 150 lbs and have a bit more to lose but am very content with where I am at. I'm 23 years old and live in Colorado. I had a lot of complications after surgery. Currently, I am still dealing with some. I have a pretty bad iron deficiency that I'm trying to get under control as well as an ulcer that bled recently and landed me in the ICU for a week where I received two blood transfusions. I have gall stones which don't seem to be a big deal yet. I also may need further surgery to deal with the ulcer. I recently had all my vitamins checked and I was good in everything but iron. My fear is about pregnancy. I have an incredible boyfriend who I've been with for 2 1/2 years and knows all about my surgery and everything that comes along with it. He is amazing and understanding. We are planning to get married after I finish law school next year. I'm not planning on having kids for quite awhile (at least another 5 years) but my fear is about whether I will be able to get pregnant, but more importantly, have a healthy child. I'm pretty good about taking my vitamins and especially have concentrated on taking folic acid (which I read to be one of the main causes of birth defects). I'm just scared that I won't be able to have a healthy child.  Have you all had success? Have you found the pregnancy tough? Did you have any concerns of your own? Any stories or words of comfort would be so helpful! It is obviously one of my desires to be a mom and raise a family.  Please share! Steph

Topic: RE: Does anyone work for the state and have Greatweast healthcare?
I work for the state.  I got priced out of Great West a couple years ago - GW's premiums are THREE TIMES more than for Kaiser.  Anyway, since open enrollment is coming, I thought I'd mention that Kaiser is cheaper and they DO cover WLS.    There is currently a 30% coinsurance to be paid by the patient, as well as copays for all the professional office visits.  The process of getting through their program takes about 9 months.  (I was accepted to the program in late August and will finally have my surgery in May.) Either way you go, good luck!

To be honest I don't really remember much pain at all of course they keep you on a morphine pump for at least the first day.  After I was released they sent me home with some pain meds but I really think regular Tylenol would have been just fine.  The pain is not much just a general soreness.  I didn't do much at all in the hospital but sleep.  They had me on oxygen so they didn't want me wandering around.  It actually was a mini vacation for me away from the kids and hubby hehe. Dear Bonnie, Thank you for your understanding. Everyone is coming around to my way of thinking... Thank God!! LOL.  I love it when people see the logic I'm tryin to put out there, cause sometimes I'm the most irrational person... Anyhow, I've got kids to get ready for the day (Not my own though)(Thank God again) lol Hugs & Thanks

Honestly, you need to just not even worry about what they say. My family really didn't have too much to say about my decision to have the surgery.  I was in Alabama, they are in Texas. I have been sick since before Thanksgiving, the Dr.'s are still not sure what is wrong, my sister has now told me that I didn't NEED the surgery I just wanted it. I didn't say a word, dead silence on the phone. We then changed the subject & have not/will not discuss it again.  The decision is YOURS & yours alone. I understand our families are worried about us & the fear of the unknown brings out a not so pretty side of them. Love them for being your family & find support elsewhere. It is not worth stressing over. It is not worth being hurt over, because I know it hurt you. Hold your head high & forge forward! Do what YOU gotta do! Good luck & hang in there, Bonnie
