Topic: RE: Is it true, no more soda ever after VSG?
Hey Cynthia~ I'm planning on having the VSG on June 16th w/Dr. Schoen at U. of CO Med Center.  As far as I know he, and Dr. Metz at PSL are the only 2 drs in CO who do this procedure.  Or maybe it's the only 2 in the metro area, but I think it's the state.  I've met w/both of them and liked them both quite a bit.  I went w/Dr. Schoen because he only required me to quit smoking for 8 wks instead of 6 mo like Dr. Metz, and in the end I clicked better w/the staff at Dr. Schoen's office.  Sara, their bariatric coordinator totally rocks!!  But I've been to PSL and even to one of their support group meetings since chosing Dr. Schoen, and I like their people as well.   Where are you located?  I know you said you were looking for a good support group, but I can tell you I've been to a support group meeting where me & another woman I met here on OH were the only VSG patients, and a nutrition class where I was the only VSG patient out of about 30 people.  So it's hard to find one, but there are more and more of us every day.  I'm in the process of waiting for my insurance approval, but we got some really good news today that it just sounds like they're waiting on papers from my PCP and then they'll decide.  So at least they're not denying me and saying they don't cover it (there policy is really unclear about whether or not they do cover it).  So I'm keeping my fingers crossed! Anyway, feel free to write more or send me a PM if you want.  I would love to chat more w/a fellow VSG'er.  That board is great as well, if you haven't been over to that forum yet.  I have just grown to love those people in the last few months.  And let me know if you have any questions.  There are other people on here who have had the procedure who are also awesome to talk to! *Angel

my husband and I moved to Alaska in Sept.  I miss Denver sometimes and I miss the support groups there.  Even though there are two Dr.s here that do weight loss surgery, neither of them offer  any type of follow up care

It's funny you asked this.  The first day I started looking into this surgery, that was one of the first things I found out about restrictions after surgery.  I swear, I almost gave up the idea of WLS right then & there.  I even quit smoking (mostly) for this procedure, and I don't know how I'm going to give up my Dt. Coke.  My DH works for Coke, so we get it at a pretty good deal...not to mention I'm an addict.   But I've come to the conclusion that there isn't anything in this world more important to me than getting rid of this weight (exept of course my family).  So I'm willing to give up any vices if it means making this change in my life.      *Angel

Not sure if anyone saw my edit or update to my original post in this thread and wanted to be sure I clarified.   Dolly did call me eventually, she sounded very busy but when she was talking to me she was totally focused on me and my surgery.  She came through for me in a big way and it was worth the wait!!  I am having surgery tomorrow!!  Leaving now for my pre op appt!   I think my pre op jitters, my impatience and anxiousness of wanting to know NOW clouded my rational thinking!!

I'm glad that you had the surgery. I had mine in February. I've lost 67 lbs so far. I feel great and have so much more energy. It feels great to be on the loosing side doesn't it? Take care.....are you in Alaska?

Hi There, The day I decided to have my surgery and have my consult withthe Doc He told me no more soda pop. I havent had soda in 6 years. I was a 6 pack diet coke drinker. Now I driink water, iced tea or coffee, crystal light or anything less than 5 calories in the bottle. The carbonation will stretch your pouch. Dont go there with the pop. Good luck with your decision. Carla Klein By the way I am 6 years out.

Ditto to what Fred said. If Kaiser is going to pay for it, you have to use their contracted surgeons, but there are several to choose from Dr. Chae, Dr. Brown, Dr. Metz.....those are all of them I think? Dr. Chae was awesome and I would highly recommend him.

Not to step on Tarah's toes, but Dacono is north of Denver just east of I-25 on Highway 52.  Roughly due west of Fort Lupton.  Another land mark is that Highway 52 is the first exit past where Colorado National Speedway is.  It is also near Frederick and Firestone communities.
