Gracias!
I am an educator here in the Pikes Peak area and am hoping to head to Mexico for surgery. After trying to get insurance to pay for the surgery (either one) and proving to be unsuccessful because I don't have any health problems, I have given up and decided to pay out of pocket and head to Mexico. My DH works at USAFA and yearly, during open enrollment, we select insurance and go through the process. Unfortunately/fortunately my only health problem is being fat which hasn't even caused high blood pressure!! So, out of pocket I go, out of pocket I go, high ho a cheerio, out of pocket I go.
I look foward to communicating with everyone about their experiences!
Wish me luck!
I am considering the surgery myself, but am considering having it done in Mexico instead. As much as I would love to have it done locally, I can't afford it, its twice as expensive. The numerous insurance plans I have had won't cover the surgery because I have no health problems other than being overweight. I have had the following insurance carriers: Kaiser, Aetna, Humana, and Blue Cross. My DH works at USAFA as a civilian hence the numerous carriers (we get to choose yearly who we want). So, I am at the point where I have researched (extensively) going to Mexico to have the surgery. The package plans are anywhere from $6000-&12000 to include the surgery, hospital stay, hotel stay, transportation and flight.
I think this is the route I am going to take and now have to choose WHEN. I teach here in the Pikes Peak area and I am trying to coincide it with our school schedule. I might end up doing it during spring break.
I would appreciate any communication, tips/advice, and stories!
How weird that BC/BS would want you to do that- did you ask them when they wanted you to do that if they were covering your airfare, hotel stays, and meals? LOL!! I'm glad you found the loophole. How's things going for you now?

Thanks first off for letting me just rant a bit. Starts off on Sun. night I have this severe unexplained pain under my right side rib on Mon. morning I went into the ER as the pain was horrible. They said they were sure it was my gall bladder but the tests all came back normal so they just referred me to my doc. Fine, whatever. All day yesterday the pain was horrible and I went from test to test to find that all the tests are still coming back good. That'd be a great thing except for the pain is still off the charts. Then I get home and my Dad calls and my Grandpa passed away last night. So, pain or no pain I'm heading to SD to pay my final respects. He was an amazing man and would do anything for my sister and I. Anyway, thanks again for listening. Lisa
There are several people on here from that area that you would be able to hook up with. I am personally from Grand Junction so that is no help for you in that case. If you go to Dr Snyders site you are able to look for his patients and where they are from. That is a good place to find them to.
If you have anything I can help you with or you want to talk let me know. Otherwise congrats and good work. You will do great!
Hi all,
My surgery date (Realize Band) was Dec 10 at Rose Med Ctr. I started eating solids last week (B4 Christmas). I couldn't "drink" a lot the first few days, but since then, I feel as if I could eat WAY more than 4 ounces at a time. I have felt no illness or discomfort at anything I've eaten.
SO... I'm really hoping that having one or more fills will make a big difference in restricting the amount of food I can eat. Please tell me that's the case!
ALSO... I'm having a lot of trouble getting all the water down. There just isnt enough time unless I'm drinking all the time. How do you do it?
Thanks for any advice.
BTW, I'm looking for any support I can find in the Golden/Arvada area.
