I had my VSG surgery at Parker Adventist with Dr. Metz on August 6, 2012. I had a great experience and would be happy to answer any questions you might have. Dr Metz is great. The staff is great. I'm doing great. I'm down 35 lbs already. Good luck with your surgery. Hopefully I will see you at a support group meeting!

I live in Elizabeth, CO. I had a VSG on August 6, 2012 with Dr Metz at Parker Adventist. Who is your surgeon? There is a great support group that meets at Parker Adventist. I think the next meeting is on Oct 18. Good luck with your surgery. There are a lot of us in CO. There are generally at least 20 people that come to the support group meetings...pre-op, post-op and all surgery types.

 Hello Nancy,
I too am having surgery in Parker this Tuesday 10-16 @ Parker Adventist Hospital. Is that where you're doing yours? I'm really happy about this hospital, it's really nice & having a private room is awesome! I'm from California and that just doesn't happen out there unless you're in quarantine-lol!
So I've been super excited & totally at peace about all this and then about 2 days ago out of nowhere I started having anxiety like crazy! Are you getting nervous yet? I think mine is more about letting go of all the bad eating habits & delicious foods than the surgery itself. Definately worried about the 3 day clear liquid diet I have to start on Saturday! Best of luck with everything, let me know if I can be of any help- K

God bless!

Hi I too am having my surgery on 10/22  but at St Joes. Good luck let me know how you are doing. I am a little afraid of the 3 day preop clear liquid diet that my insurance requires but....I am sure it will be over quickly. I am back and forth between happy, scared, terrified and exhausted. I have waited over a year but all of a sudden reality is slapping me in the face. How about you?

I am having VSG on 10/22 and would love to hear from others. I live in the Littleton area and know even email buddies would be some support. I do have mandatory support group through my insurance but would still like to hear from others. I know this is a "fit" state but I am surprised no one posts here. Love to hear from someone.

Thanks for the introduction Nancy.  I, too, am looking for face to face support with people in Denver, CO.  I had my RNY surgery Sept. 28th.  Parker is a bit far, but if you are ever up in Denver I'd be happy to meet for coffee (decaf of course!) and chat.

As far as protein shakes, drinks, blah, blah.  It has gotten crazy in past few years.  There are SOO many choices.. flavors.  I bought mine at Whole Foods.  It is a Whey Protein Isolate (the Isolate part is important as there are lesser quality ones) with no sugar added.  It is 108 calories per scoop and 26g of protein per serving.

I mix it with:
a liquid:  milk, juice, or water
+
a thickener: SF jello, SF pudding, or yogurt
+
additional flavors:  SF drink mixes, instant coffee, SF syrups, Stevia, nutmeg, cinnamon, vanilla

I can see no other way of getting in 60-80g of protein a day without doing 2 or 3 shakes.  Keep in mind you can only absorb ~20-40g of protein at a time so adding two scoops doesn't really help.

Topic: Announcing Forum Upgrades!

Its been over six years since we've launched our forums. During this time it has seen thousands of fresh faces, greetings, meetings, partings, arguments, kind words, life transformations, cathartic rants, and simply happy time pass. It has been with us throughout this time, silently observing and facilitating. But like any wise old man, its bones were getting old. Its joints were aching, and it has been needing a new jolt of energy.

A Mobile World
Did you know that over 30% of you visit our website using a mobile device? For those who do visit us via mobile, we owe you a sincere apology, because our forums have been horrendous on a mobile browser. But the big news is that things are about to change! Our new forums are completely mobile friendly and compatible with iPhone, Android, and pretty much any other modern smart phone.

Each post, topic, and forum shows up beautifully, with the full set of features, and in nice large font. See the screenshots for yourself.

You dont have do anything different, just browse to the forums like you normally would. This means that you can finally put these away:

Not Just for Mobile
The interface on your desktop browser has also been cleaned up a great deal. There is now less clutter on the page, and the overall experience is a lot cleaner. Check out some more screenshots here!

You will notice that each post no longer has 400 buttons below it. Only the buttons that are relevant to each post show up, making your screen space a lot less cluttered. Also, when you reply to another person's post, the entire post is indented inside, making it a lot easier to figure out who has replied to whom.

Launching soon! Maybe as early as next week! Maybe.
And do remember that this is not in any way a be-all-end-all when it comes to the forums. We are in the process of constantly learning and improving upon what we have, and this is just one step along the way.

Stay tuned for the changes! We look forward to hearing your thoughts on this.
