Cigna
When my husband changed jobs last year and we knew his insurance would change I was so excited. I learned through my PCP what I needed to do to have WLS. 1 year of the mediacally watched diet. 6 months on one 6 months on another one. So I am into my 7th month. My Dr gave me a surgeons name and number and said to give their office a call. I looked at his web page first. It told me everything I need to do before the first appointment with him. One of those things is to make sure that my insurance company will pay for it. Well guess what. They wont. Its one of those non covered benifits. So I guess for now my journey that I thought was finally underway is coming to a close. I am totally destroyed. I have no clue what I can do now. There is no way that I could ever pay for this and I couldn't qualify or pay for a loan if I got one.
Its so sad, there was finally a door that was open and now its been closed.
Anyway thanks for listening.

Renee,
I have Cigna and the insurance piece of this was horribly frustrating. I got caught in the middle of their changes last year. While I was going through the physician monitored 6 mos rigamarole, Cigna changed their stance and said they were no longer covering it. To make a very, very long story short I fought them and won. They covered it. I wanted to let you know that I was told by an attorney that I consulted that there was a good chance that Cigna was going to start covering it again very soon. It's all rumor, but I'll keep my fingers crossed for you. Keep doing the physician monitored diet on a monthly basis so that if it changes you are ready to go. Please make sure that your physician is keeping detailed records and writing her recommendations in your file. I also had to try a weight loss drug for a period of time...each policy is different.
Keep your chin up. I'll be thinking of you!
