WLS and estrogen
Has anyone in their experience with WLS had the surgery throw them into perimenopause? I'm 41.
I've had menopausal symptoms and been going back and forth to doctors regarding the symptoms trying to get relief. The worst of the symptoms are the constant migraines and insomnia.
Any thoughts? What did you do?
It took almost a month but my doctor gave me an estrogen patch and didn't run any FSH test or anything on me. I saw a gyn yesterday and she wants me off the patch for 2 weeks and then get a level. But she treated me as if I was taking her time for just migraines. I seriously doubt vaginal dryness has anything to do with headaches LOL.
Please reply. Thanks.
Stephanie
Hi Steph ... I had WLS about 2-1/2 years ago (at the age of 41) ... I haven't been "officially" diagnosed with perimenopause, but I'm so totally devastated because I'm ttc. My FSH levels have been going up the past couple months, to the point where I can't even go through a cycle of IUI or IVF.
I went through the hot flashes, but just wrote it off as my "body thermometer" out of whack. I've today started the Rainbow Light Women's Nutritional System multi-vitamins, which contain Vitex (hormone balancing) ... and I'm considering acupuncture.
One of the reasons I went through WLS was to start a family ... and now my dream of that is dwindling.
I was on Desogen (birth control pills) last month, since my periods have gotten a little sporadic since surgery. I haven't talked to the RE about anything else yet, I have another appt with her Dec 27.
I'd love to keep in touch to compare notes ... here's a site you might find interesting: http://earlymenopause.com/symptoms.htm
This is making me nuts!!
