hey ya'll!
Hiya! I'm a Bonnie too! We are stationed at Fort Carson and contrary to what I've seen, I'll Fort Belvoir commissary over this one haha. If you need information on the area or help with anything let me know. Always glad to lend a hand. We are threatened with the prospect of going to Rucker ourselves next year. I can't find any decent information about the post, so maybe you can share your thoughts? I'm not a fan of the east coast (in-laws would be too close) haha. Welcome to the site and to Colorado !
i am soooo sorry ya'll may have to come to fort rucker!! lol! we hate it here! my hubby has been in the army over 18 years, he was sent here after iraq. we have only been married a little over a year, so this is my 1st dealings with the army.
the best things about the area are, cost of living is cheap, that is why most people stay in the area. it is soooooo hot here, the humidity just kills ya! another good thing is the bama board, you will have a wealth of support with your weight loss. there is a wls group that meets about 1/2 hr from here. the people here accept you, no matter who you are. as for the rest of the population around here, they are the rudest people i have ever met!
the commissary....well, lets just say i rarely go there~! lol!
my hubby was at carson years ago, so at least he knows some about the area. i sure hope we get to come there sooner than later!!
if ya have any specific questions about the area, lemme know! thanks! bonnie
We're newly weds of sorts too; 4 years in July, but we're both long in tooth. He's in Iraq currently and have only 4 more years to go and then it's adios to this nut house called the Army. I have very little contact with the Army way of life. I go to the commissary and buy gas and that's about it. It's a nutty organization I tell ya. You couldn't get me to live on post for any amount of money. Apparently starting in the new year, you have to pay for a portion of your utilities if you have housing. Sounds like a money making scan to me haha. We own our house just off post. I gave up working after we got married and haven't been been bored a minute yet. I'm always working on the house. Got to make it pretty to sell next year. I recently signed up at the YMCA and have been going every morning and loving it! No skinny girls in thongs to blind you as you walk in. I'm 4 1/2 years post-op, but still haven't lost all the weight I want. Started off 325 and right now I'm 233. Went from size 26 to a comfy 18. If I didn't have this deflated balloon that is my belly, I could easily wear a 16. Some day I'll get it lopped off and have my breasts put back where they belong too. My goal is to drop 25 pounds before Mike comes home from Iraq. So far so good. This web site is the first contact I've had with other WLS patients. Was never aware of any support groups, although I had no problems adjusting to the new me. Can't say as I blame you for wanting to get out of AL. I had my surgery in NC and had the same experience of rude people. And the WORST service in stores and restaurants ever!!! Anyway, glad to know ya!! Bonnie
