Just had my 4 week post-op checkup yesterday with Dr. Schoen and I am down a total of 92 lbs since the start of my 3 month pre-surgical diet back in May. I'm 40 lbs down since surgery 4 weeks ago so 10 lbs a week is not so bad. Everything else checked out as well.

Hi Cheryl, Yes, Optifast for nearly 3 months. Kind of a funny story actually. I started out on a regular diet initially with the intent to go to Optifast the last couple of weeks prior to surgery. I lost 7 pounds by the first checkup so everything was on plan. Unfortunately I gained 9 pounds at my second checkup which, needless to say, made Dr. Schoen and Kelly a tad bit unhappy. So, Dr. Schoen put me on Optifast immediately and it allowed me to lose the 52 pounds. Losing the weight prior to surgery was the best thing I could have done since it allowed me to transition to life after surgery much easier. It also significantly reduced my surgery risks. I'm still a long way from "blowing away in the wind" but I am certainly happy with the results so far and feel much better than I have in years. Nice to hear some positive jokes about my weight though. The best of luck with your surgery. You selected a heck of a surgical team, imho. Terry

Thanks and I do feel much better. I actually rebuilt my bicycle this weekend and went for a quick ride with my 7 year old daughter. It wasn't a pretty sight but it was a small victory especially since it has been at least 15 years since I rode a bike. "The Fat Man Rideth Again"!
