New and I have questions... :)

Hello everyone. This site was suggested to me by a friend and it looks wonderful. I have United Healthcare (PPO) as my insurance and upon contacting them, I was quickly told that the surgery was an exclusion. Does anyone else here have UHC (PPO) and have had different results? Is the insurance company simply "blowing me off" or should I look at other alternatives? Other insurance companies that accept this type of surgery? Fairly new in the process and any suggestions would be helpful. Thank you for any words you can share. Shelby

Hello Shelby; I too had UHC, my company had it written out as an exclusion. Unfortunately I had to pay out of pocket. It was so totally worth it, as I just am having my six months and am down 104lbs!! Yahoo! I feel great! Good Luck to you, and I will be rooting for you! Birgitt

Shelby, Bariatric suyrgery may or may not be excluded in your coverage. Your responsibility is to read your specific policy. Then there is not a question. My provider UHC would have paid however the company that i worked for had it excluded to cut down on costs to the insured group. SO the ins. companies cannot be blamed for everything. It could be your employer. I was a private pay too. As Bridget says, it is so worth it. I'm down about 125 lbs and at goal. I can do so much more than I ever thought I could. I can do more than I ever thought I could. You are right too. If you do not think about it, you will not do it. Your life can totally be turned right side up with this. It is a matter of getting it done though whatever it takes. We hope you will join us soon on the loosing side. I have United Healthcare, however I am not sure if it is a PPO. I didn't have any problems getting it approved?? Has Dolly (at your Dr.'s) contacted them and they denied you or are they just telling you that it is excluded? Jami
