How important is support from Family and Friends in WLS?
I'm not sure that a husband who says that the decision is yours to make is being unsupportive. Lots of people on the main message board with husbands who are very vocal about not wanting their wives to have the surgery and not really caring about what their wife wants. The question is...if you do make the decision to have the surgery, will he support your decision and be there for you when you need him?
Andrea
Well, yes that is true. However I am his wife and i would like for him to support me on this decision. It's not like he would tell me no. Some people have told me that they could not have done it with out the support from their family. I do alot for my son, running him here and there, so i need someone to take over that for me. etc...
DANETTE, I'M NOT SURE YOU CAN EXPLAIN TO HIM WHAT YOUR NEEDS ARE. IF YOU WANT THIS BADLY ENOUGH, YOU MAY HAVE TO GO FORWARD WITH IT, WITHOUT HIS SUPPORT. HOWEVER, HE MAY JUST BE VERY AFRAID OF LOSING YOU. HAVE YOU DISCUSSED IT WITH HIM IN DETAIL? DOES HE KNOW ALL THE RISKS ASSOCIATED WITH THE SURGERY? COMMUNICATION IS THE KEY HERE. I ALSO HAVE TO TELL YOU THAT SOME DOCTORS HERE IN COLORADO WILL OFTEN REFUSE TO DO THE SURGERY IF THEY HAVE ANY INDICATION THAT YOU DON'T HAVE A GOOD SUPPORTIVE SPOUSE SO BE CAREFUL HOW MUCH PERSONAL INFO. YOU SHARE WITH THE SURGEON OR HIS STAFF. SUPPORT IS DEINITELY IMPORTANT BUT IT ISN'T EVERYTHING. AT TIMES I THINK THEY GO TOO FAR INTO YOUR PERSONAL LIFE AND ASK A LOT OF QUESTIONS THAT'S REALLY NONE OF THEIR BUSINESS !!! LOL GOOD LUCK TO YOU...AND YOUR FAMILY. HUGZ....ESKIE LADY
