Bowel bypass-Gastric bypass
Have any of you out there had an unsuccessful bowel bypass and then had a gastric bypass that was successful? I had a bowel bypass in the mid-70's and only lost 40 pounds, that is considered unsuccessful. After 2 years in the Kaiser program being told that this was a non-issue I have been told that although I can have the gastric bypass done it probably won't be successful! Back to square one for me, decision time all over again. Please, please if you have had this problem let me know. I have to make my decision in the next week if I want to have surgery this year.
Thanks in advance for your help. Linda the Impatient!
Hi Linda,
It's me Margaret from our little Kaiser class. 8^ )
How dare they wait until now to spring something like this on you. We all went and jumped their hoops in hopes of having the siurgery done. They should of let you know before all of the time you spent and effort put forth to get there. It's not like you kept a secret from them. They know our medical records.
I would be so angry! I will say a prayer for you. Maybe things will work out but if they say you will probably not have success then I would think twice before going through it.
I am personally waiting until the first of the year. I have obligations to finish school which is high priority right now.
Hang in there tight. Let me know what happens. HUGS Margaret
Hi Linda,
Have you researched having the LapBand done? I know that there are people who have the band done after RNY and are having luck, so I wonder if it's a possibility for you after a bowel bypass. Just a thought. Last I checked, Kaiser won't pay for the band, but there is always self-pay or Mexico. For what it's worth, I love my band and am very happy I had it done.

Linda, What do you have to lose honey?? Go for it, my risk factors are very high, but I am going to go ahead anyway. Dr. Lucas is very conservative and gives you the absolute worse case senarios. I have only half a life now so am willing to face the risks to improve my quality of life.
Just think how wonderful it will be if it is successful...
I am praying for you.
