Considering Dr. Bell
Hi Angela: I don't know anything about Dr Bell but I am considering gettin Great West insurance during open enrollment in October at my work. I now have Kaiser and it is taking forever. I am hoping to get surgery in January with Dr Frank Chae. He is a surgeon who used to work at University Hospital and now is at Skyridge. I understand they are both in network with Great West. Anyway I was wondering how Great West has been to deal with regarding gastric bypass. I am a little hesitant to leave Kaiser for Great West but was wondering what your experience has been.
Hi Dixie,
I don't yet know how Great West will be. I haven't tried yet to get approval. I have talked to the preliminary approval people, and my particular policy does cover the surgery for "morbidly obese members." Gotta love that phrase. Anyway, I did have Kaiser at one point, and I don't know about your experience, but I wouldn't put my future in the hands of a company who doesn't always let you see the same doctor.I will certainly let you know how my experience is. I have only just started considering the surgery.
Angela
Angela,
I don't know alot about Dr. Bell but know that you can get information about him from this website. If you go to "find a doc" and put in Colorado he is one the Dr.'s that comes up. There are "customer" comments on the page and it tells you how many surgeries he's done, Lap and Open and where he operates. It's a fairly good source of information.
I am seeing Dr. Johnell in Greeley. I really like his office staff and particularly his RN, also he's wife. She is great and very helpful.
Hope that this helps. Keep us posted. Best of Luck.
I had Dr. Bell. Great pre-op care. Excellent surgeon. But let me hurt when I tried solids for 5 whole months, telling me "some people just have this unexplainable pain" I asked him every time I saw him if it could be from the Irritable Bowel Syndrome that I've had for years...he kept saying he was sure it wasn't that. I knew something was wrong. I got disgusted  and went to my gastroenterologist. Guess what? My IBS is going absolutely insane! The new medication, Zelnorm, calmed it down and I can eat veggie burgers now! Hooray!
Cheers,
Rusty
