Ok, I have the strangest question, and I can not find the answer in my book from Kelly's class. I have the nastiest taste in my mouth. I have tried to brush my teeth, I have tried gum, I have tried tic-tacks and nothing is working. Would it be ok for me to suck on a piece of hard sf candy? Any advice you have would be greatly appreciated!! Much Love, Kris v

Hey there, Me too. I called Susie at Dr. Chaes and she said it was part of the ketosis. But i find it is worse if i am drinking milk, so i wondered if it was a sign of being lactose intolerant ? First i guess i should have asked if it is a sweet fruity taste. Real nasty. If you find a solution please share. Thanks, Debbi

Kris-- I tried mouthwash and that helped. But what I found that really helped is "Eclipse" flash, they are like mint sheets, but they are really strong, so I can only take a piece (I tear off small pieces), so they last a long time and I don't have the sugar issue, since I am only taking a small amount. It does eventually go away. Good luck! Carla

I had the same thing when I was on the Atkins diet last year. It is ketosis and it will go away or you will just get use to it. I use to brush my teeth a hundred times a day trying to get rid of it. That is a good sign though, it means that your body is burning it's own fat for fuel. Great Job!!!

Hey Ladies, Wanted to give you a few suggestions for the bad breath problem... I am a dental assistant and have researched and learned about this... Try these out and see if any one thing works better for you than the other.. Good Luck... Leslie

Here's the list... Brush your teeth with a paste of bicarbonate of soda (baking soda) and water to keep your breath fresh. This will neutralize the acids in which the bacteria that cause bad breath and tooth decay thrive. Using an antiseptic mouthwash will also help. Chew fresh parsley after eating a meal.. It contains an antiseptic that kills bacteria in the mouth. It's effective against garlic and onions too, as are mint leaves. Chewing dill seeds after a meal will also freshen your breath. IT works just as well as parsley and some say it tastes better.. Dental floss will dislodge decaying food particles that become stuck between the teeth. These decaying food particles are a home to all sorts of bacteria that can harm your gums and cause nasty smells and tastes in your mouth. Leslie

If you suck on hard candy, you have to be REALLY careful not to swallow too much air. I had some a few weeks ago and was miserable after I had it. I had swallowed so much air, that it made me VERY uncomfortable. I had sooo much trapped air. But yes, the taste will go away. It is from ketosis. - Naomi down 93 lbs!
