Possible Hernia Coming...HELP!

I finally connected with Dr. Chae about some stomach pain that I've been experiencing. He is suspecting a possible hernia although I don't have any lumps in the area yet. He suggested some sort of support, like a corset or tummy control panty. Does anyone know where I can find one that may fit me? To give you an idea, I have to lose over 200 lbs to reach goal weight. I am so scared about this. My surgery was 4 wks ago and ended up being an open procedure, so I am more inclined to get a hernia but if I can avoid it, I would rather. Any advice would be so great. Thanks!

Try Lane Bryant or JC Penny's. I know that they carry larger sizes. I hope that you start to feel better soon. KRis

Hi Staci, I haven't had the surgery yet, but from reading the posts I learned that some people buy a "body shaper" garment from WalMart ($11). They say it's really tight like a girdle and goes up under the ribcage. Much better than the binder they give at the hospital -- or so I'm told. HTH, Michelle

Hi Michelle, Thanks for the tip. I will try there first when I get off work tomorrow. I was never given anything in the hospital. Maybe if I had, I wouldn't be having this problem. Oh, well. Woulda, coulda, shoulda... Good luck with your surgery. Are you scheduled? If so, when? Staci

No I'm not scheduled yet and frankly I'm pretty frustrated with Chae's office right now. I am starting to wonder if going with Chae is a good idea after all. Now that you have had your surgery, and you went through having a hard time getting a hold of him with this abdomen pain... if you had it to do over again would you do it with someone else... like Tillquist? I have heard that some docs give their cell phone number to their patients to make sure if there is a problem they can reach their doctor right away. Also some docs seem to have an extensive follow up porgram... and I'm starting to think CHae doesn't do either of these. Or maybe they just haven't gotten around to telling me about their awesome follow up program yet. I'm starting to worry so much that I picked the wrong doc that I called Tillquist's office to see if they accept Tricare insurance. I didn't get to speak to a live person (I left a voice mail) but the recording said they were making appointments for initial consults in October. That's the only reason I haven't given up on Chae's office. Please tell me if you would chose someone different or stay with Chae now that you are on the other side. I was actually in tears today because I getting so frustrated and worried. Michelle
