Does anyone know anything about Humana insurance. I was also told about a news item on Tues or Wed night about a lady that had gastric bypass and se had found funding for it. I was told that it was not a loan but a fund that has been set up for bariatric surgery. Thank you for your help. I am so glad that a friend told me about this site. Kathy

Kathy, Hi. WELCOME! I do not know anything about Humana insurance, but nearly everyone who wants Gastric Bypass can get their insurance to foot the bill if the surgery is medically necessary. Medical necessity is defined by a couple of things. First of all, your BMI (Body Mass Index). It needs to be 40 or over. A BMI of 40 basically means that you are at least 100 pounds over your ideal body weight. Visit this link for more information on your BMI http://nhlbisupport.com/bmi/bmicalc.htm Also, there is the fact that most people with a high BMI also have other major health problems that are directly related to their obesity. These are called co-morbidities. They include Sleep Apnea, Diabetes, Hypertension, Osteoarthritis in the weight bearing joints... the list goes on and on. Obesityhelp.com is the most WONDERFUL resource to learn about gastric bypass surgeries (There are a few different types of surgery, too) WELCOME ABOARD!!! Susan
