Various Questions

OK I have a few questions. I have a surgery date of May 28 and I keep running these things through my brain. 1) I am pretty heavy chested and I am so worried about hanging out all over the place in the hospital when I have to get up and walk. I do have a robe, but I will still look ridiculous without a bra on--any tips? 2) I feel like I am in the "Last Supper" syndrome, and I have been eating very poorly for the last week--I need some inspiration to snap out of it. 3) Is it realistic of my hubby to bring my children up to the hospital the day of surgery--to visit me afterwards? My surgery will be in the early morning.

Hey Sue, first off let me say congratulations on your surgery, it will be wonderful for you! and now, here is what I would say... 1) I too, am big chested and nobody will worry about what you look like, the doctors and nurses have seen it ALL, so dont worry! The gown at Swedish was pretty big so I could actually tie it, but I sure wish I had brought my robe so bring that for sure! DONT WORRY about how you look, nobody is there for a beauty paegant ~ 2) I understand about the "Last Supper" syndrome and that is normal for most people to feel that way... Im not sure what qualifies for eating "poorly" but just remember that what you put on now will only be more you will have to take off and you are SO CLOSE now, so try to start eating healthy and smart. (I have wished many times that I had not put the extra 40 pounds in the year I was deciding to have surgery, it would make my goal alot closer now). The best thing you can do for yourself now is try to eat normal portions, proteins and salads and then right before surgery you really want to take it easy and stick to salads and easily digestable things. 3) I also had my surgery in the morning and was pretty much out of it most of the day. If you think your kids can handle it, maybe have your hubby come by in the early evening or the following morning... Just play it by ear and dont worry to much about them being there... you will see them soon enough, but in the hospital you need to focus on yourself. Good luck with everything and if you ever have any post op questions (and you will), please feel free to email me and I can try to help! [email protected] Judith

Hi there, Sue! Congrats on your surgery date - it's less than a month away! You must be so excited!!!! I sure hope everything works out for you. As for your questions, here are my responses: 1) I was also heavy-chested, and it wasn't a problem. They gave me a huge gown and although I did bring a bathrobe, I never pulled it out and used it. No one will even notice. 2) As for the Last Supper syndrome, I say "go for it"! (I know it's not politically correct to say this, but it's how I feel...) Although I'm almost four months out, I still wish I had Last Suppered more - the first six weeks were so hard that all I could do was think about the places I used to eat at and what I used to eat. So don't beat yourself up over it - just realize that you may gain a little weight before surgery, and your doctor may have an issue with it (if you gain too much weight, they may have to dos your surgery open, instead of lap). 3) I, too, had surgery in the morning. I don't really remember the first day - the second day was so much better. If your kids can handle seeing you kind of out of it, let 'em come. If they can't, I'd hold off until day 2. That way they won't get too scared or anything (if they're the types to do that). Good luck to you. If you have any questions, send me an e-mail via my profile. Frances
