Well, I am in the first hurry up and wait phase. I sent the paperwork in to Kaiser and am waiting for notification of whether I am approved or not. I supposedly fall into their - no co-morb's needed, will be approved category. Keeping fingers crossed. Being trying to lose some weight in the meantime... and it just ain't happening.
Does anyone else have Kaiser? How long before you heard? Have you gotten a surgery date?

I used to have Kaiser, and they told me that because I did not have any of the co-morb's that I would not be approved. I was also told that even if I were to be accepted it would be at least 5 years before I could have the surgery, becuase they don't have any open slots. Needles to say I droped Kaiser like a hot potato. I wish you all of the luck in the world, I will keep you in my prayers. Good Luck to you. [email protected]

I hear you loud and clear. I have Kaiser, and they gave me the same discouraging runaround. I was told first that I would have to go on a doctor-supervised diet for a year (oh, please!) and that there would be at least an additional two-year wait for the surgery. It took me 3 years to make up my mind to have the procedure, and it was devastating to me to hear that Kaiser wouldn't cooperate with my efforts to be healthier. I didn't want to drop Kaiser insurance, because the woman who did my cancer surgery and continues to provide followup care is the most awesome doctor I have ever met. I was fortunate to be able to borrow some money from my brother, and I cleaned out my investment and savings accounts and paid for the surgery on my own. I haven't regretted it for an instant, but I continue to be resentful that my HMO treats fat people like second class citizens!
