Thoughts on Protein
I don't usually copy and paste a posting from one forum to another, but I did put this on the Michigan forum and although there isn't the utter obsession of it here on this forum, it is a subject that is near and dear to my heart so I thought I would put it out there. my mom and I have had conversations about this before and she states that her doc is adament that she can NEVER get enough protein in one day from food, so she has to supplement with designer fake protein crap. well I disagree, and apparently the new surgeon that she has gotten that is going to have to do a partial reversal because the old surgeon doesn't put every stinking restrition on the food that she is able to eat. she just told me last week, that she was going to have to relearn how to eat after two years of having it beaten into her head that she couldn't eat real food that she might be able to do that again. she was shocked at how much and what types of food that I could eat when I was at home, but I have lost more weight than she did in less the time, and have lost more weight in less the time than antoher friend of mine who was roguhly the same height and weight to start as me too. so I must be doing something right. anyways here was that posting.

I have an unusual question about protein.
Can anyone tell me why everyone is so obsessed with protein powders, protein drinks, and protein pills or liquids if you can find them? is there a reason why everyone insists on eating fake synthesized, designer protein rather than just eat real food. I know that we all have a weight problem. I know that we all have or are going to have surgery of some kind. I know that our eating is more restricted so that we can't eat enough food for a small country, but we can eat small to normal amounts and I can not understand why everyone insists on eating fake protein crap that is NOT real food.
Why don't you just eat some food? I wouldn't even contemplate eating the stuff that most of you talk about. I have tried some desinger sort of protein bars and that fake protein in them makes me sick. not just a feeling of sick, but full blown diarraha and stomach cramps and the works. so why would anyone want to put all that fake chemical protein in their body when you can have REAL food that is good for you?
and egg will have between 7-9 grams of protein depending on its size. 1/2 cup of cottage cheese with 1/2 cup of Heinz baked beans will equal 25 grams of protein. most cheese has about 25 grams of protein in a few oz so if you sprinkle small amounts on things during the day, you might add up to that over a full day. plain yogurt is low in fat naturally, and taste great on baked potaotes, mashed potaotes, in italian dishes anything where you want the taste of sourcream but not all the fat. eat some real food for heavens sake.
I have this same conversation with my mom who is over two years post op in that all she ever eats is that stupid isopure, sugar free jello, sugar free pudding, and bullion cubes. where is the nutrition in that? there IS NONE!! all that is filled with is CHEMICALS!!!!! aspartame is what they put in things to replace sugar. there are articles out there of people that have been misdiagnosed as having MS *****ally just have all the symtoms induced by this horrid chemical. and in fat free foods, they just add chemicals and SALT. which too much salt will make your blood pressure go up and you will retain water and not lose weight. does anyone ever read the labels on the food or FAKE food that you put in your mouth? hmmmm...well if you can't pronounce all of the ingredients, do you think you should eat it? do you honestly think that the food industry is in the business of making healthy food for us? or MONEY for them? they are interested in making money off of our misery.
so take charge of your own life and don't relie on fake food. eat some real food for heavens sake, we had a surgery to restrict the amount of our eating, not stop it all together.
