I'm investigating surgical weight loss

Hi Toni,
It's good to go in knowing Dr Shoen will prob want me to lose weight before surgery. I'll go in expecting that and if I don't have to, I'll go from there. I weigh 249. I keep losing and gaining the same 30 lbs.   Does Dr Shoen listen and seem to care how hard this whole issue is. I already feel so badly about myself. Which kind of surgery are you having? What is your insurance and did you have problems with them approving your surgery.
I'm  excited with you for Tuesday.

Hi Amm52. 

I'm in Monument also.  I have an apt with Dr. Michael Snyder in Denver on January 6th.  I'm hoping to be approved by my insurance for WLS. I've been thinking about it for the last couple of years, but just recently decided I would move forward.

I wish you the best of luck and would be nice to have a buddy in this area who is going through the same thing.

I do plan on checking out the Support group that meets at Penrose Hospital. Maybe we could go together sometime.

Thanks for your note. I agree that a buddy in Monument would be helpful and it would be nice to not go to the support group for the first time by ourselves. Do you know when the next support group meeting is?
How long ago did you schedule your appointment with Dr Snyder?  I'm scheduled to see Dr Jonathan Schoen at University Hospital. I was scheduled for tomorrow but they called to reschedule for next week. Now that I've decided to do this I want it done now. I don't want to think about it anymore.

I'm not sure when the next support group meeting is, but I'll check my paperwork when I get home and let you know. 

I originally had an apt with Dr. Snyder on November 11th, but had to postpone due to my insurance carriers changing on Dec 1st.  He was totally booked up the first two weeks in Dec and he takes off the last two weeks of December for vacation so the soonest he could see me for my first consult isthe first week in Jan.   I attended his seminar back in Sept.  

I'm with you. I so want to move forward with this surgery now that I have finally made up my mind.  I'm so worried I wont' get approved.  I'm still not sure whether I will do the sleeve or the RNY. It all depends on what my insurance will approve.

It's all exciting and nerve wracking at the same time.

It is so nice to know we are not alone in this process. Support must be key to doing this process.
When do you expect to hear from your insurance CO and what insurance do you have?
I have United Health PPO. 
I would really like to go to the next support meeting.

My new insurance company will be United Health Care.  It takes effect on Dec 1st.  Keeping my fingers crossed that they approve me for surgery.

I just looked at my notes and it looks like the Support Group meets one the 2nd Friday and 3rd Tuesday or each month @ 6:30pm @ Penrose downtown.  I'll try to verify that and maybe we can attend together?
