Actual waiting time in CO?
Yahooo hoooooo! I got my YES letter in the mail today! It's the BEST piece of mail I've EVER EVER recieved! The weight mgmt clinic said that the wait time was about 6-8 months for surgery........wow! I know I didn't put the weight on overnight.....but goodness it seems so far away!
Does anyone know if that if the accurate waiting time for the Denver area? Or, is that what they say to prepare for the worst case scenario?
Anybodys advice who has been a t this stage, would be greatly appreciated!
If you happen to be a Kaiser patient, that's about right. I was referred by my PCP in April of '08, got my approval in November of '08 and was banded on June 15th. I had to pospone my mandatory classes for a month due my work schedule so I could have been a bit sooner, but not much.
Good luck with your journey!

Yes, I am Kaiser...so I guess that'll be about right. Once you got the approval letter/ packet/ DVD....how long was it before someone contacted you to start the next steps? Basically, I'm in limbo now, correct?
Thanks for replying...even though I wanted to hear that it would be much sooner than the warned....I'm very thankful for a realistic idea of how long. I've never been so impatient & READY for something in all of my life!
Anyways, thanks again!

Just looked through my folder. I filled out the questionaire in May '08 and was contacted that I qualified based on the questionaire in June of '08. I was then contacted in November '08 and had my first appointments with the Bariatric Nurse, and Mental Health Professional (Shrink) in December of '08. I was offered to start the classes in February '09, but had to wait until March of '09 because of work. The classes were a total of 8 weeks and then the surgery was scheduled for about three weeks out. Kaiser has a great program and the three surgeons you can choose from are tops. I chose Dr. Metz and can't speak highly enough about him. He and Dr. Brown are with the Colorado Bariatric Surgery Institute (www.coloradobariatric.com), the third surgeion is Dr. Chae at the National Bariatric Center (www.nationalbariatrics.com). You could actually start your research now if you want by going to their websites and attending their free seminars. You should do this eventually anyway to select your surgeon . I attended seminars with Dr. Chae and Dr. Metz. Again, good luck with your surgery.
I am a Kaiser Permanente patient here in Colorado as well.
It is a slow process so be prepared.
I filled out my paper work in February 2009. The weight management folks and the packet tell you it can be up to one year before you even start your classes. It usually takes 6 to 8 months though.
Once they do call you, you take 2 months of classes. (Do not miss any classes, not one or you are out of the program, no excuses!) After your 2 months of classes, you are then given your surgery date, which is in approximately 1-2 months. I am still waiting to be called. It is so frustating, I am obsessed with this!

Hey there! Thanks for getting back to me. So, have they even called you for the classes yet? When did you get your approval?
This waiting is so hard. I've been doing my best in the meantime to do what I can on my way to healthy...but I sort of feel like I'm waiting for 'it' to happen, for my life to really begin.
Please, please keep me posted on your process.
Thanks, again, for getting back to me.
PS...I, too, am obsessed with this!

I sent in my packet at the beginning of February. It takes approximately 2 to 3 weeks to get an answer (in the form of a letter and packet.) They put you on a waitlist at that point with a date of your acceptance. (my wait list date is 2/27/2009) They go down the list and call you to enroll you when it is your turn. Your turn doesn't come for approximately 6 to 8 months. I still have not received a call or letter for me to start my class but am hopefully close. Will let you know. Traci
