Heading to Mexico for surgery!

Gracias!
I am an educator here in the Pikes Peak area and am hoping to head to Mexico for surgery. After trying to get insurance to pay for the surgery (either one) and proving to be unsuccessful because I don't have any health problems, I have given up and decided to pay out of pocket and head to Mexico. My DH works at USAFA and yearly, during open enrollment, we select insurance and go through the process. Unfortunately/fortunately my only health problem is being fat which hasn't even caused high blood pressure!! So, out of pocket I go, out of pocket I go, high ho a cheerio, out of pocket I go.
I look foward to communicating with everyone about their experiences!
Wish me luck!

Good luck to you!  And Welcome!  At least paying out of pocket you know you really want it, and wont let yourself fail...you have to much invested!

I paid out of pocket too!  I used Dr. Kirshenbaum in Denver.  He only charges $9950.00 and $15.00 for fills after your initial 3 months. I am very pleased with his services.  He performs the surgery at two outpatient facilities.  One at Parker Adventist Hospital and one near The Medical Center of Aurora.  Dr. K is a very experienced, skilled and caring physician.

Just a thought...

That isn't too bad and I get to stay state side! I might consider using Dr. Kirshenbaum. Since DH is FF he works 24 hr shifts and it is going to make it tough if I go to Mexico...with the kids. Thanks for the input!

Before I found out that my insurance will cover lapband surgery, I had researched Dr. K in Aurora, CO also.  Every post that I have seen regarding him are extremely positive!  If you haven't already, check out his website.  I have no idea what it costs in mexico, but Dr. K's price and follow up costs seem very reasonable!

Good luck!

Hey there:
I went to Mexico and had a vertical sleeve gastrectomy with Dr. Guillermo Alvarez back in August. I am now down 78 pounds with about 30 left to go.

It was an excellent experience: one procedure and done, no fills, unfills or adjustments necessary.

Feel free to send me a note if you want more feedback.

I just got back from Mexico, Tijuana with Dr Jose Rodriguez.  I was referred by Beliteweight - Joanne.  They took very good care of us.  I had the lapband at $ 5400.  That covered pickup from the airport or any hotel in San Diego, transport to INT hospital over the border.  One night stay at a hotel 3 blocks from the hospital with followup the next day.  Doctors came to the hotel to check on everyone.  We also did our xray the next day for our band positions and xrays to take home to our doctors.  Feel great so far.  No problems.  Would go again.  Cost was my factor as I have no insurance.  Doreen
