Welcome to the boards Melody.  I wish you the best of luck with which ever
you choose,  I'm very happy I made the decision.  Keep us informed how it

Paula,

Thanks for the welcome.  How are you getting your ticker to "stick"?  Mine is just showing up as a link.

Hmmm...

I made my ticker and then right clicked on the actual picture and pasted over.
I couldn't make it work otherwise.  :o)

Alexis,

Thanks for the welcome.  I don't get to GJ that much, but nice all the same to talk to a fellow Coloradoan.

Happy Holidays!

Hi Melody
I just got my lapband installed and am stuck right now with a small infection, so won't be getting a fill for a couple of weeks. I live just outside of Woodland Park. It's wise to be doing WLS for your  health and your son will learn good habits from your experiance too! I think these forums are so helpful!
Good luck to you

Hey-

Thanks for all the encouragement.  I should say that seeing a doc for the WLS won't likely happen til mid-February as my benefits don't kick in until Feb 1st.  I know they will cover one surgery and one plastic surgery once I've come close to my goal.

My question is this: Wouldn't Lap-Band be the preferred?  It's less invasive, reversible, and minimal hospital stay?

Sorry to hear about your infection Belinda.  Keep in touch!!

Hi Melody-

I selected the lap-band because of its safety(mortality rate). I  went in for my surgery, and a couple of hours later I was on my way home. It was one easy surgery for me - when I awoke I had three Band-aids and one bandage a little bit bigger than a band-aid. My Dr. did the surgery laproscopically. I had little pain and that was mostly from gas. Actually I needed an antacid/anti-gas pill worse than I needed a painkiller.    I felt I took the safest route for WLS. Everybody I talked to who had RNY said "get the lap-band" because the Dr. can adjust it, and he can let it all the way out and tighten it right back up if you start gaining weight again. You can't do that  with RNY. My cousin had RNY and gained most of all of her weight back because the stomach stretches out. Like you said we only get one operation like this and insurance won't cover another operation if  the person stretches it out.. I felt the lapband would give me the best chances of long-term weight-control with the least complications. My infection was topical and is now cleared up so in a week maybe I can get my first fill!!

Where is Dr. Metz at?  I've also heard Dr. Fisher is pretty cool too!  I'm hoping the minimally invasive route will be the best as I won't have much time off from work.  I mean I'll have sick time, but I just hope to not have to use it.

What do you mean by getting your first fill?  Where are you in WP?  Maybe we can meet up and chat.
