Hi everyone! . I'm from Texas and I've never been to Colorado before but my husband is being sent there by the army so we will be moving there together in about a month.
This is a huge surprise for us. He was supposed to ETS (get out of the army) in September of next year but they have imposed stop loss, stop movement on his unit because they are deploying. If you are not familiar with how the army works, basically, that means he can't get out until after the deployment which will last a year even though his contract is over before the deployment begins.
Anyway .. he was looking for a civilian job in Philadelphia, so i posted on that board about a month ago, looking for advise on housing.. but now we're going to Colorado, so here i am now.
We want to buy a house there. We like the idea of living in Colorado Springs. We have only heard good things about this area and we are very excited to move there. However, neither of us is familiar with the neighborhoods. We are approved for 200,000 right now and our agent is pointing us toward the Powers area School district 41.
How nice of an area is that? And what other areas could we consider? What specific subdivisions would you look in? Should we consider getting approved with both of our incomes in order to purchase a home in a nicer area? I just don't trust real estate agents.
Thanks!

Thanks! Other families that I know are looking in the Fountain area too. Should i be concerned that it is so far south? The other poster said i should look as far north as we could afford.
Our realestate agent has shown us places in the Powers area and in the Fountain area. The only difference I see in the neighborhoods is that the Powers area has newer homes.
All we have to go on is online listings for the moment. I can't wait to get there and look at homes in person! :)
