I am new here!

Hello everyone! As my topic says I am new here and somewhat new to forums so I tend to have problems with posting. Anyway I am just starting my journey. The prospect of weight loss surgery was only recently brought to my attention as the result of a fall from my horse and the resulting trip to the ER. I have struggled with my weight for more years than I care to remember and gone through too many diet plans to count, all of course without results. So here I am, I have had my first consult with Dr. Dickinson in Fort Collins, I tentatively have a date of January 13, 2009 and will have the psych eval and the nutrition consult on the 25th. It has been a very interesting few weeks, to say the least! I first started serous inquiries in September and fully expected to be spending the next 12 months at least jumping through hoops and doing all sorts of new tricks to convince the Insurance company to go along with me, but for some reason just when I think there is a new obstacle, it seems to get taken care of and I am suddenly on the road to a whole new life. Almost like it was meant to be and someone is telling me that it is the right thing to do. Funny how life works out in the long run. Anyway my dear friend Damia told me about this site, she had her surgery over 5 years ago and has never looked back. I am looking forward to talking to others who are getting ready for the surgery and those who are on the other side of it!

Hello again!
Thanks to all who welcomed me to the boards!  Well I am on the way, I had my psych eval last tuesday and Dr. Betty approved me for surgery!  My friends now have to admit that I really am sane, either that or I can fake it really well!!  The same day I met with the dietician and have been reading up on all of the dietary info.  It doesn't look so bad!  I am tentatively scheduled for surgery on January 13, 2009 with Dr. Dickinson in Fort Collins.  I met with him on Halloween day, go figure!!  The fun part was that I was checked in by Popeye, complete with muscles and everything!!  I am still a little surpised by the way everything is falling into place for me but as I told Dr. Betty. it's kind of like it was meant to be, with each new turn the way is clearly marked and well lit!   I am very excited to be starting this new phase of my life and very much looking forward to being a healthier me.  For the most part everyone around me have been super supportive and my family is the best in the world!  There have been a couple of party pooers but they have not been too bad once I have explained to them that I am doing this for my health and to be sure that I am around for my daughter's future!  Plus regardless of whether I have this surgery or not, I have to make a serious life change one way or the other. Period.   So I have set a one year goal for myself.  My mother owns a great little quarter horse that is currently in training with a fabulous trainer from Holland to be a reining horse, I have ridden her a few times but because of my size and balance issues I was scared to death of coming off of her.  We are planning for her to go to the National Western Stock show and be shown by the Trainer in January. (My surgery happens right after she shows!)  So I am setting a goal to be able to show her myself in 2010 at the Stock show!  So with that in mind my darling daughter has dusted of her copy of "Fitness for Riders" and with the help of her Phys ed teacher, is putting together a fitness program for me after the surgery!  I just hope she doesn't kill me with it!
I am still have a moment every now and then of questioning the path that I am on but I am answerig the questions with more confidence everyday.  So now I just have to wait for the okay from the insurance company and I am on my way!  Don't get me worng, I am well aware that It will not be easy and there will be times that I wonder what the hell I have done, but at 45 I am not going to get any younger and I do not want to welcome 50 in tha shape I am now!
Anyway thanks for the support!  Onward and upward!

Hello!  I just had a Lap Band placed on Oct 7th and I've lost 38 pounds so far.  I'm loving my band!  I don't have a lot of restriction, but I am sooooo careful with what I eat.  I don't believe the fear mongers about WLS.  My blood pressure is normal, and my blood glucose is almost normal too.  I don't regret it at all!  Good luck, and God bless
