Hi raftinglady39,
Nice to see you are a Dr Snyder patient. I have yet to get a surgery date since I weighed too much to have the surgery safely. I am now 15 lbs. from my first goal, so I should be getting a surgery date within a few weeks.
As for the psych evaluation/consult, it is really very easy. For mine I sat with the Psychiatrist and we discussed my history of weight issues and my life in general. She asked me questions about how I felt about food and dieting as well as how I came to the decision to wanting to have this surgery. She also told me a few things that I did not think about before. Although I don't remember exactly what they were, I do remember they were just basic insights to how I would have to think and deal with food and my current issues with them going forward and after the surgery. Bottom line they are looking to make sure you are making this decision with a sound mental attitude with realistic expectations and goals. They also want to make sure that you are emotionally ready for whats going to come down the road once you have the surgery.
Don't get too worked up about this part of the process, in my opinion, this was the easiest. Just a simple hour long talk about who I am, what I am, and what I expect to happen in making this decision.
Best of luck to you and your husband.
Yeah we have a conference on Saturday with Dr.Snyder to just listen ot him talk and to hear testimonials. We are both really looking forward to sitting through that.
It is very interesting and surprised me that you said you weighed too much to have surgery. Isn't that part of what the surgery is about? Congrats on getting so close to your first goal. That's awesome! I have heard of people on here in their 400 lb range going through surgery for this though and so I'm just confused. I am worried because my husband is around 370 and he really does need surgery for health reasons. I look forward to your reply if you would be so kind. Thanks so much and best of luck to you!
