My Springs PCP is CLUELESS about post RNY issues.  Does anyone have any PCP's they can recommend that are familiar with post RNY issues.
Here are my struggles- as read from the blood test:
very low Vitamin D, 25-Hydroxy  even after Rx high doses
very low iron serum- had iron infusions
very low serum ferritin
low hemoglobin
low WBC
low hematocrit
low MCH
high RDW
high lymphs
low neutrophils
Any feedback would be great...
Thanks-
Holly

Hi Holly,

I am a student nurse who had wls in 2003, and new to this site.  I would recommend that you purchase a lab value book.  It explains what all those tests mean and helps you to understand why your blood is giving you those results.  I have had similiar results to yours.  You may need to take a hematinic iron supplement.  I take 325 mg 3 times a day.  I have to do this consistently.  If I slack off for a little bit, my levels drop and I feel terrible. This is a huge amount compared to what a non-wls person would take.  It is very difficult to get a good doc post surgery.  I am STILL looking.

Holly, I absolutely LOVE my PCP, I have been with him for 17 years, and he is very educated on WLS.  I will send you his name and number.  Good Luck Gayle
