I have a date to meet with surgeon.
I went to the seminar yesterday at Penrose and it was pretty informative. They said that the doctors were booked til the end of July beginning of August. My first appointment with Dr. Fedorak is for July 10th. I am soooooooooooooo, excited.
Any one have any suggestions or thoughts about the beginning stages?
Which surgery are you having? I am 3 1/2 weeks post op with the Lap Band. I had my seminar on 4/26 and didn't get in to Dr. Snyder til 5/14. however, on his website he had all the paperwork you could print and fill out, and also the screenings he required prior to surgery which were pulomonary and psych. All docs seem to be different though. but I scheduled those while I was waiting to see Dr. Snyder so when I went in for my consult I had my screenings and clearances done already on those. You might want to check with your surgeons office and see what he requires. Also, regardless of which surgery, you are going to be on some protein drinks etc. post surgery. You might want to check out GNC, Vitamin Cottage or even Walmart and starts sampling some so you have an idea of what you like before surgery and can stock up. I am not a shake person but liked the clear Isopure drinks. Also found a tasteless protein powder at GNC called 'Any Whey' that I added to things to boost the protein.
Good luck to you, hope that helps a little.
Gastric Bypass is what all the doctors are recommending for me. I'm mostly now worried about the health insurance covering it. I have United Healthcare and that's my main concern at this point.
As far as the protein drinks. I've been using a product line called, Isagenix. It's kinda like Herbalife but not nearly as pricey and not all those dang tablets and pills. I like the shakes the best, they taste great are filled with nutrients like you wouldn't believe. I actually did the whole diet for a month and lost 32 pounds but drinking shakes for more than a month is no way to live. But every now and again my mom and I drink them for dinner or before bedtime when we feel like cleansing our bodies. I've seen the Any Whey I think before. I'm really picky with my shakes, if they taste horrible I just wont drink them. LOL
Thanks for the words of support, I am just so excited. I've been overweight my entire adult life and I'm just tired of the aches and pains and not being able to fit into seats and such.
Bettie,
Unless something has changed since my surgery almost 2 years ago, Dr. Fedorak's office doesn't require the protein shakes. He really recommends you get your protein from food, but he isn't against the shakes.
You mentioned that you have UHC for insurance? I had them, too. I kid you not, I started all my appointments in June of 2006 and by August I was having surgery. Hope it goes as well for you!
