I am brand new here

I was recently accepted for Bariatric surgery and will go to my 2nd class this Wednesday.  I am interested in having an online "buddy." to kind of walk me through everything and support my efforts. I have a lot of support from friends and family but there may be some things they do not understand.  Thanks

toni, you can consider us all your online "buddy".  We are all here to learn from each other and to lean on each other as well.  If you have something private to ask, just send a Private Message to one of your online friends.  Good Luck

I know that feeling but don't let that stop you.  My brother who is a certified trainer went on this diatribe on what the surgery would and would not do (Thinking he was telling me something new), but he wasn't telling me anything that the folks at Dr. Brown/Dr. Metz office weren't already telling me.  When he was through, I told him that I loved him and respected his input, but it didn't change my mind.  I told him I was still going through with it anyway. He responded by saying something like while he really wasn't crazy over the idea (Who would be?), he understood and said he would respect my decision.  Today, he just humorously chastises me over it, calling me names like "Mr. Go-Under-The-Knife" and such.  I just laugh it off. ;) Anyhow...Hope this helps a little. Cheers :)

Thank you....I have one friend who constantly wants to tell me the horror story of her friends sister who died 1 year after surgery (she doesn't know what of) and we both know 3 people who have successfully had the surgery.  I just told her that I love her but she just needs to trust that I know what I am doing.  She is older and pretty set in her ways ( and a bit on the negative side).  Thanks again.

I am here for you too.  We all know those horror stories.  I had to realize that I was more scared of dying because of my morbid obesity than dying trying to do something about it.  I also went to Dr Chae and then my brother and then a sister.  I have sent many people to him because I believe in him.  And he is passionate about his work.  I BELIEVE this surgery did save my life!

Good luck Toni! I am still pre-op, but understand some of what you are going through. As you read and talk with folks here, you will be amazed at how much knowledge you will gather from the others experiences. I am currently waiting for my final approval from the Ins co. Hang in there!

Thanks Scott.  I already have my Insurance approval and am just waiting to finish my classes and goals to set a date.  I am not frightened of the surgery (I have had several surgeries before during the time the opened you from top to bottom ),  but need all the support from people who have gone through, or going through, the process.  Good Luck and thanks for being there.

Hi Toni, I am pretty new too.  My surgery date is June 12th, I am having the Lap Band.  Which surgery are you having?  I haven't told many of my family and friends yet and haven't decided how, if, when, or what to tell them.  Some will be supportive but others not so much.  What bothers me most is I know some (namely a SIL) will be talking about it behind my back and then everyone will be watching every bite I take, etc.

Good luck on your upcoming surgery...just a couple weeks away now!  I have Dr. Snyder too and he is wonderful!  Everyone in the office is so supportive and very easy to talk to.  If you have any questions or concerns, I would be happy to help. Jenny
