Hi everyone, My lap band surgery is scheduled for exactly one week from today.  I am told that having on a Thursday can put me back to work (as a Paralegal) on the following Monday.  Is this true?  Has anyone on here returned to work 4 days after the surgery? Please help! Alison

Congrats on your surgery date!!   You might want to post this on the lap band board, you might get some more answers. But as for me, I wouldn't have felt like working in 4 days.  It took me several days to get over the anesthesia haze, so that might have slowed me down. Chrissy

I had my surgery on Thursday and went back to work on Monday - I am the office manager for a small law firm.  I usually only work 3 days a week but I did have to work the next Monday, Tuesday morning, Wednesday, and Friday after surgery.  I did fine working, the problem I ran into was feeling very weak because of the liquid diet.  Once I was able to eat more substance (like refried beans or cottage cheese), I felt much better and have not missed any work because of the surgery.   If you can take two or three extra days then do it, but if you have to go back to work - you'll be okay.  Good luck.

Hi CW & Sweeny, Thank you for your replies!  I had my surgery yesterday (May 15th) and all went well.  Although, they sent me home with oxygen.  But that is not really a big pain. I will probably try retuning to work on Monday.  Even if it is only for 4 hours at a time.  I just don't want to let my boss down. Well, I'm a little sleep now.  Time for a nap! Alison

Hi Alleyal2U, So how's it going now after about 10 days after surgery?  I have mine with Dr. Snyder on the 12th of June.  Any tips or advice you can offer would be much appreciated!!

Hi LongtbThin2, Good luck to you this week!  Everything will be fine.  My surgery went off without a hitch, and yours will too. Be prepared to be sent home with oxygen.  From what I hear, he does that with all patients.  They sent me home with oxygen and then had the medical equipment deliver a whole bunch of oxygen equipment....I thought to myself, "Am I really sick or something???"  LOL.   They will also send you home with a pain pump attached to your abdomen.  It will last approximately three days, and then someone in your household can pull it out.  (It's like pulling out a piece of spaghetti....it doesn't hurt).  They also send you home with a pain prescription, although I didn't even need it. Be sure to have sugar-free jello on hand, and beef or chicken broth.   Just get some rest afterward and take good care of yourself.  I returned to work on Monday after having it on a Thursday, and I was just fine. Good luck,!  We'll keep you in our thoughts and prayers on Thursday. Alison

Thanks Alleyal2U.   Actually since posting that question my surgery got move up earlier one week, I had it last Thurs. the 5th instead of the 12th.  However, I didn't get any of the things you described, no pain pump and no oxygen.  Though I did hear them sending the gal in the curtianed room next to me home with oxygen.  I've had a little pain but took a few of the pain pills that Dr. Snyder prescribed at my pre op appt.  I've not taken any of those since Saturday.  Took liquid Tylenol yesterday and so far today nothing.  I'm still very groggy, I don't work outside the home, but I couldn't imagine going back to work today.  Just a walk around Super Walmart wore me out.  LOL  The port site feels uncomfortable today and that's about it.  Never did have the shoulder pain from the gas.   Right now I am trying to decide when to add the refried beans, eggs, pudding, or yogurt.  They said at 5 to 7 days.  I'd love some real food tomorrow but don't want to pu**** either.  Since the whole office is going to be closed next week, I have my 2 week post op at one week, this Wed, so it's only 6 days actually.   Thanks for your response.
