IV in neck?
I have not had these surgeons. I have heard of doctors putting in very IV's in strange places because of possible complications, but it's only something I've heard of in a round about fashion. My daughter was born premature and had IV's put in all spots on her head, neck, legs, arms, hands...everywhere! It looked awful, but you just have to remember that as they say "this too shall pass". Talk to your surgeon to see what their policy is and why if your concerned.
My drain tube from gastric bypass surgery was taken out two days after surgery...I had very little drainage. They didn't have to empty it out at all. I know that drain tubes are left in for quite a long time with a tummy tuck. Once again you just gotta talk to your surgeon and see what they do.
My doctor leaves one of the laproscopic holes open and we have to pack it closed ourselves with gauze (most have a spouse do it). It's horrible, painful, and caused an infection in me. But every doctor/hospital is different and do things the way they believe is best. My hospital does this because a few studies have shown that allowing this "dirty" hole to heal from the inside out in this fashion of packing actually causes less infections and resurgeries. (One hole in laprscopic surgeries is considered to be dirtier than the rest because it is moved in and out for the different tools for the operation...the rest are cameras). Most places do not do this so you shouldn't worry yourself. But everyone needs to get as many details of what's going to happen before, during and after surgery so they are prepared.
Good luck!

Has anyone had surgery with Dr. Chae/Dr. Metz/Dr.Brown and did you have an IV in your neck the day of surgery?
I guess not all surgeons do this. Also, do any of these surgeons have you go home with a drain tube in? Thanks,When I was taken to the hospital for (What turned out to be) an eight week stay, the staff at Rose Medical Center (The hospital I go to for all my other care) stuck IVs in every place they could think of. Arms. Legs. Heck, for awhile, they even had to stick a LONG line down my shoulder (That thing was A MONSTROUS sucker too).
Then came THE CATHETER. Ohh boy. I was surprised they didn't knock me out before sticking that thing on. THAT HURT.
Before my surgery, I told the staff at P/SL and CBSI up front that if they were gonna EVEN ATTEMPT to put a catheter on me, they would have to either knock me out in pre-op or wait till I'm under the anastesia (sp?) in the OR to do it. Suffice to say, they told me they wouldn't have to put one on and didn't.
Anyway, there I go again. Straying too far off subject. When will I ever learn?
