Wanted to let everyone know I am doing ok, some pain (bump where my port is?) It is weird, I am not hungry, but find myself wanting food! LOL sheesh I have a question. My doc and my nutritionist gave me conflicting instructions on what to eat. Nutritionist says clear liquids; doc says smushy foods? I am going with nutritionist. any suggestions? Tami PS  Vivk1010 is doing well, she said she wasn't doing too bad for getting hit by a truck!

Tami, Congrats on getting home quickly, I didn't have to have a port so not sure about that, so glad I didn't.  I TOTALLY know what you mean about not being hungry on bit but craving food - it's a weird thing.  I don't get hungry at all but know I have to eat - you will have to make yourself eat on a schedule when you get to that point.  As far as instructions, all I have ever heard is clear liquids for a week after surgery, that's what I had to do, then full liquids like yogurt, creamy soups etc... for another week, then blended and on.  Maybe  your Dr. was confused or thinking/talking about a different period.  Hope that helps. Welcome home!  When I came home from the hospital I couldn'****ch enough cooking shows!!  They didn't make me hungry or crave anything, but for some reason I craved cooking shows.  Thank goodness for the Food Network.   Seems as I was on clear liquids for atleast a few days.  I can't remember now, but the first two weeks were clear liquids and full liquids which was anything that could be blended to the consistency of liquid.  No lumps and nothing that had to be chewed.  I suppose it depends on what the doc meant by smushy.  But  I think I agree with the nutritionist. Glad to hear you are doing okay.  And Vivk1010, too. Jerra

Well congrats on being on the losing side!  It's just the beginning of your journey and you sound like you're well on your way.  The hunger that you are getting is literally 'head' hunger.  You know you don't wanna eat, yet it's all you can think about.  With your new pouch, you want to be as gentle as possible.  It sounds like you had lapband, but it's still sore and very tender.  Liquids are the best for the 1st week or so to help sate your appetite.  Then you can go to mushy foods, pureed and such and then you get eggs and oatmeal and cream of wheat and such.  Remember to get your protein in either by drinks (preferable at this time) and B12!  The head hunger will get worse before it gets better, but now you have a tool to help control it.  Just remember when you wanna cheat how much you went through to get to this point.

It sounds like you are doing great so far.  Remember there are so many people who have been where you are, and are going to BE where you are.  Thanks for sharing your experiences so far.  Keep up the great work and I hope some of what I said above helps.

The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness and faithfulness. Galatians 5:22

I just got banded on 12/20.  My doctor's protocol is clear liquids the day of surgery.  Full liquids for two weeks and then mushies for two weeks, soft food for two weeks and then start adding regular food week 7.  Is your nut. attached to surgeons office?  If so, I would follow her advice otherwise I would go with what the doctor told me.   Good Luck, MileHigh
