Hi Everyone, Just wanted to know if anyone had Aetna Insurance  and a BMI of lower than 40 that's been approved for  gastric byapss or a revision in Colorado.  I'm just trying to figure out what I have ahead of me and how to start preparing.  I would welcome any info. on working with Aitna,  Thanks!

I do not have Aetna Insurance, sorry. I would suggest calling the source or checking out their website for information. Most insurances seem to have the common thread that if your bmi is over 40 or 100 lbs over weight you qualify and if your bmi is under that then you need to have co-morbidities or medical complications due to being obese. The specifics vary according to insurance of course, and there is still an overwhelming amount of insurances that do not cover weight loss surgery at all. Get a journal and start taking notes. You can also call your insurance to find surgeons in your area that participate in your plan. They should have information too. There is a difference between an initial gastric bypass and a revision as far as insurance goes also. Some insurance companies only offer weight loss surgery as a one time offer and will only preform additional surgeries if there are complications with the original surgery. The majority of revisions are not due to complications but because of a lack of success with the original surgery. I am not anti-revisions...but some insurance companies are. Well I cannot offer much help but I wish you the best of luck in everything. Everyone needs a little luck with dealing with insurance!

Thanks for your response.  I know I have a battle ahead considering I have a BMI of 38.  Guess I just  have to keep my fingers crossed.  Thanks again for the information.
