After going to the Lap Band Support group in Colorado Springs last week, both my wife and I would like to have the Lap Band procedure done. Our medical insurance does not cover it, so we are on our own. Any advice on shopping around for the best deal - financialy and of course reliability being a factor.

My only advice is look for a bariatric surgeon that has done hundreds of them.  I know a lot of general surgeons are trying to break into WLS.

If I were you, I would post on the main LapBand board and ask self-payers what it cost them. You might have to go out of state, but you  might happen on something really good. Just my thought...

The Colorado Springs Surgical Associates group does do them, and I would absolutely trust them as one did my rny, but they have been doing them for less than a year at this point.  Set up a consult with Dr. Fisher or one of the others there and see what you think.
