Vitamin Troubles

I'm 5 weeks out and I"m having alot of trouble getting my vitamins down. I bought some Childrens chewables before surgury and I was doing really good getting them down, then i had surgury and everytime I would try to eat one I would get really sick and throw up. I went and bought some flinston chewables assuming that they are smaller and taste better, well they are still making me gag and throw up. I need a vitamin with Iron since I am anemic and can't take my iron supplement, but I cant stand the taste of them and I cant chew them if they are really big or chalky. I seriously need to get something because I can't go much longer skipping the vitamins.....PLEASE HELP!!!

I had the same problem.  Textures and smells get me.  To me, all vitamins smell yucky.

Talk to your surgeon.  Mine allowed me to take regular vitamis and swallow them whole.  You may be allowed to take regular vitamins after you cut them in half. Good luck!

First, Welcome to the new you. Yes! There are a lot of trials ahead of you and you must be able to take all the needed suppliments that are required after WLS. I can't tell what is right for you, but I have started with the bariatric vitamins, and am adjusting to other sups. on the market. Couldn't tolerate the Iron at all from bariatric advantage. SO I choose a multi-vitamin with 18 grms of iron in it. Thats what you need. Look for chewable-But if not available try splitting your pill once or twice. Make them small and swish  together with bit of  liquid before swallowing. (It helps). Remember to only take sips of water. No gulping....it will come back up. Hope this helps. It does get better with time.   :)   Bonnie

You might just try swallowing them, unless your surgeon says no for some reason.  I was swallowing pills in the hospital.  I did do chewables for a couple weeks, just the vitamins.

Maybe you can take a normal daily chewable vitamin (I take 2 childrens) and hopefully you can keep those down. Then seperately you can take an iron supplement. Iron is hard on normal people's stomachs much less ours. I haven't been taking one yet...I wanted to wait and see if I'd need to according to my blood work. It doesn't hurt to go ahead and take them to make sure you don't get low but most of the time it's not required. Hope your having some luck.
