Which Surgery?

Hello All, I have decided to have bariatric surgery but am really struggling on which one. At first I was sure that I wanted the Lap, but because I have such a huge sugar addiction I have been really thinking about the by-pass. I have spoken to my friends that have had the procedures but would like more imput. Could those of you that are post op tell me what you consider to be the pro and cons of the surgery you opted for? I'm meeting with the surgeon on Wednesday and still have not decided. Thanks!

Excellent question and it comes down to a very personal decision--YOURS! Band won't change WHAT you can eat, but the amount you can eat. Refills and the presence of the band are issues you have to deal with. RNY may or may not restrict your sugar intake--I can eat no sugar, but others can eat pretty much anything. So then it comes back on you to make good decisions for your own health. Cons..it changes the way you are wired inside permanently..which is kind of a weird thing I don't choose to think too much about. I've had some pretty serious issues postsurgery..but down 70 pounds..they were all worth it. Keep researching..read the message boards for each type of surgery..you'll get more info than you probably ever wanted! Good luck on your journey!

Hi!  My use Dr. Snyder also.  He is a great dr, and is also very funny.  It is a very personal decision and Dr. Snyder should be able to help you too.  I chose the lap band and am very happy with my decision.  I am down about 58 lbs in 4 1/2 months.  I love sugar too, but just have it in limited amounts now.  The band doesn't stop me from eating it, I just have to have some will power.  But on the other hand, I am very glad that I can have some cake and icecream every now and then.  I just had my 4th fill yesterday, it really isn't a big deal.  I am glad that I can have the band adjusted to my eating amounts.  Let me know if you have any other questions and welcome to the boards. Hello! Thanks for the advise. It sounds as though your doing really well. Congratulations on your losses!!I've had my consultation with Dr Snyder and decided on the Lap band. Dolly's working on insurance approval and I still have a couple of more tests, a CPAP as I have sleep apnea and an EGD . I am very nervous in regard to the surgery, I'm sure everyone is.  I'm not as young as many of his patients (I'm 50) so have concerns in regard to my age and eveything else, but want to play with my grandchildren and am really sick of feeling and being unwell, among other things. Thanks for your welcome and support! Cheryl
