Okay so I'm 4 weeks out from surgery and I have lost 32 lbs so far. Now don't get me wrong I'm super excited about it, but from week 3 to 4 I only lost 2 lbs!! I'm starting to get frustrated. Am I suppose to hit a plateu this early on?? I so wasn't prepared when I saw that the scale had only said a 2 lbs loss.  An help on how to kick start my weight loss again, because Im just not satisfied with only 2 lbs.

Hello, Beautiful Army Wife!

I'm only a little farther along than you are; I'm just at 8 weeks, and yes, it is possible, and expected, to plateau. We are still healing up from a major trauma to our systems, and our bodies are in shock. They will try to hang on to everything! I thought for sure I was done losing weight at 4 weeks out, but it turns out that altho the scale didn't move, lo and behold I was losing inches! After a couple of loooong weeks of following my doc's instructions, the lbs started coming off again.

I am a slow loser, so I've not lost as much as many others here, but at least the scale is going down and not up, and I'm cool with that!

Do you live on post? My doc is down in Canon City, and I drive past Carson every time I go to see him, and think how fortunate we are to have such a dedicated military. Tell your husband "Thank You" from me ~ and thank you, too, for taking care of him!

Warmly,

Nancy

Hey there. Yes, it's possible to stall.  Don't get to worked up over it though.  You'll only make matters worse.  The way I looked at it, and still do, as long as the numbers on the scale are decreasing and not increasing, I'm fine.  Trust me, there will be weeks that you only lose 2 lbs., then BOOM, you get on the scale the next week and you've lost 5.  That, and like the previous poster said, you could be losing inches instead of pounds.  Get yourself a tape and measure yourself for a baseline, then you can measure every week in addition to weighing.  Losing 5-6" may offset the dissapointment of only losing 2 pounds. Does your hubby live in Canon and commute to Carson?  I noticing that is more common lately.  I grew up in Canon City.  Growing up, we didn't have any soldiers living in town, they all lived on post or in the Springs.  The only uniforms we saw down there were prison guards, cops and sheriffs.

Dear Armywife, Do not despair!  This is normal and be prepared for more of these to ocure.  I am now over 2 years out.  I had many plateaus, but finally ended up losing a total of 110.  My doc thought I'd loose between 90-95 so I did better.  One of the things I finally did was to stop weighing myself so often.  During the first 1 1/2 years I would weigh only once a month.  It's so much more satisfying to see that you've lost 10-15- or more lbs in a month and you don't even notice when you've hit a plateau.   I lost 100 lbs the first year and within the past year have lost another 10.  I think one of the reasons I've had such success is I have totally cut the sugar out of my diet.  It makes me sick when I get too much, I literally throw it up.  I have to count my sugar grams and have learned to read labels.  I can eat complex sugars, like from fruit or grains, but if there is simple sugar added to something, like high fructos corn syrup, etc. then I usually don't touch the stuff.   Perhaps keeping a diet log would help you.  If you keep track of what you're eating you'll be able to see when you're adding things in that you really shouldn't be eating.  My weekness is potato chips and french fries.  I have to be careful to keep those to minimum.   Good luck!  You'll do just fine.  Laura
