Uh-Oh!
Hi Ducky, I had surgery with Dr. Brown at PSL in Sept last year.My class with Kaiser was the first to be offered surgery with both surgens.I chose Dr. Brown for a non wls procedure.I wanted my tubes tied at the same time and could not have it done at st. Joes.Loved Dr Brown I spent One night in the hospital and went home. As Kaiser patients we get only one follow up visit and then follow up with Kaiser from there on out.No prob loved the hospital. I had my own room.Couldn;t have asked for more.

Hi there!
I had my RNY with Dr. Chae on May 21st. While I'm not to the point that I can say that I'd do it again just yet, I can say wholeheartedly that Dr. Chae is a great doctor. I've met a ton of his patients and every one of them is happy and cannot say enough good things about the man. He certifies other doctors in this procedure and definitely knows his stuff. I have heard (second hand) that his stricture rate is ZERO! Never had one! I also know that out of 2000 procedures, he's only had 1 fatality and so his rate there is less than 1 %. You must also understand that the fatality involved a very very sick man to begin with.
He had to perform an emergency hernia (pre-existing) repair while I was in the hospital over Labor Day weekend for me, and when I told him that I was sorry about him having to do that, he just laughed and said "It's what I do!" The guy's a saint!
Having said all of that, I don't know a thing about Dr. Brown, so he could be great too!! Just thought I'd share my experiences with you!!
Good luck!
Jennifer
I had Dr. Chae and would recommend him to anyone! My insurance would of paid more if I went with another Dr., but I was so confident in his skills that I opted to pay more out of my own pocket. The main reason i was so confident in him was the number of surgery's he has done and lack of fatalities or even side affects. He has an impeccable bedside manner, spent lots of time with me and my family answering questions.
Honestly, I was so comfortable after surgery that I felt like I didn't even have it! Very little pain and the hospital (Skyridge) was wonderful (I had some terrific nurses). I can't say enough good things about him.
As was mentioned before, his nutritionist is also wonderful - her support group has consistent attendance from not just pre-ops, but long-timer's and she plans great programs. She has a wealth of knowledge and cares so much for her patients. You have to take her nutrition class before surgery and it is extremely comprehensive - I sometimes hear post-ops questioning what they can eat and i have to wonder what their surgeons did to prepare them. I know that with Kelly and Dr. Chae I felt like I knew what was going to happen and they were always available for questions. Heck, Dr. Chae gives all his patients his cell phone number in case you have any questions or problems. I don't know many Dr's who will do that.
Hello ducky, and all of you Colorado'ns,
Dr. Brown was my surgeon. He's office is connected directely south of Pres.St. Lukes and he performs his services there. Dr. Chae, will be across the street at St. Joseph hospital. So if your preference is where? Who? One subtle difference is that Dr. Brown doesn't use a JTube(drain) unless neccessary.
Dr Brown was the Dr. I choose and WLS went pretty well. There is some wondeful people at PSL and his staff at the BSI is right on. It's good to have support during and in the latter stages. Most of my support has been with others that are in the 10 week class prior to WLS.
So if you choose, sounds like there may be good support with Dr. Chae. Not implying that I don't have either. The Kaiser programs were very knowledgeable and prepares you with all the needed info for a speedy recovery.
Your friend, Bonnie
Great question as I've been wondering about both of those doctors myself. I too am a Kaiser patient and was approved for surgery on July 23, 2007. I am glad to hear both surgeons have good reputations. I have a couple of questions about them myself. 1) Has anyone used either of them for a Lap Band? If so, do you go to them for your fills, or how does that work? 2) I saw that Dr. Chae practices at St. Joe's and at Skyridge. As a Kaiser patient, do you know if we get the choice of whether we want it done at one over the other? I live in Parker, so personally it would be a lot more convenient for me to have it at Skyridge.
Thanks! Robin
